Surely 4gb is 4gb no matter what flavour it arrives in....I was always taught no matter how you dress it, a turd is still a turd! Can 4gb vram and new die compete with the gtx 980 ti? Its looking like this callsign will at long last hang up his amd hardware.

That is some dramatic statement right there, without seeing it in action and seeing how HBM performs you can't call it a turd.

The fact its also new tech you cant expect them to chuck out stupid amount of memory it only pushes the prices up, and as we know people don't want to keep dropping £600 on graphic cards every 3 months!

Not directly calling it a turd just yet, was merely pointing out an observation. 4gb is still 4gb no matter what flavour it arrives in be it gddr 5 or hbm its still 4gb is it not? The fact its new tech I would expect at least enough ram to do what its designed to do....do you not think that's fair enough, especially when NVidia are now releasing 6gb on their gtx 980 ti?

After all these years of being an amd user, not a fanboy but just stuck with their brand, in all honestly I would say im a ROG fanboy if anything as Ive always stuck with them but my platform has always being amd, so like a lot of people Im actually waiting with baited breath! Although if im completely honest, Im not holding my breath!!!

Im no noob Tom, only a noob posting....you have the benefit of being informed...All we can do is go off past examples, trends and then guess....Its no help reading every snippet of information and trying to put the pieces together...Im waiting with baited breath buddy if the truth be told!

I am inclined to agree with your first post

4gb is 4gb however you dress it up.

If AMD try and use some compression trickery or whatnot to squeeze a bit more in there it is going to bring problems.

We all know what happens when manufacturers start messing with memory, we just love the GTX 970 lol.

All hail the new Fiji XT 4gb + 1gb lol.:D

If the Fury or whatever their top single GPU is called beats the 980 Ti/TX I wonder what Nvidia will do because they can't bring out another GM200 as the full core is out on the TX, Unless they bring out a GTX 990 i.e 2 x 980's or a Titan X2 i.e 2 x TX's on 1 PCB

Nice one! xD

Tbh, i am really looking forward to these cards. The new asus released card a few days ago has my attention but thats a kind of plan b. First lets see what AMD will bring us

I am allready thinking the release of the 980 ti was a panic move to get sale's early.
It doesn't make sense to make the titan x allmost irrelevant after 3mths with a card within %5 performance and 300 bucks cheaper before waiting to see the red team gpu anless nvidia has anuther ace up there sleeve ready to go.

If AMD beat Nvidia then the only other ace up their sleeve would have to be something like Pascal as their full Maxwell architecture is out in the Titan X Or they bring something out like a dual Titan X or dual 980 card.

NV can still bring out a fully enabled GM200 chip with 6gb of VRAM and beefed up power system which would bring a nice bump in performance.

Having said that we need to wait and see what the new AMD card brings to the table.

As the new AMD card uses HBM which is very new I hope the reviewers are very though in their testing so there are no nasty surprises or bugs for the end users.

How on earth did the GTX 970 memory issue get missed by all the tech sites.:)
