I'm guessing they're gunning for the Pentium K so they get the budget market back under their control.

I guess APUs do quite well for HTPCs and from what I've seen, they make decent laptops.

TFW AMD release a 8 core CPU with a 290m stuck on top. An 8 core Carizzo probably would easily beat Bulldozer and most of Piledriver. Therefore it could beat/keep up with i5s. Then again AMD are all about low power these days .

The 1st point on the slide "30% Increase at 15W" should tell you all you need to know. If that part turns out to be true, it'll make Carrizo powered laptops pretty damn cool and quite competitive with Intel, but don't expect it to set the house on fire on the desktop side of things.

Not only that, the leaked roadmap had a TDP of 65W max for Carrizo
