AMD announces Ryzen Threadripper

Very nice! Those 4096 pins though, oh wow! CPU must be as big as a balcony :D

Hard to know if that pin count is true, Threadripper doesn't need to use the same socket as Naples.

I wonder if Tom will use it for Orca II? I guess that depends on how Skylake-X compares.

I think software will need to be ableto take advantage of those cores. I mean we have some stuff that can use 10 cores for Intel, but as we add more scaling gets lower even with 10.

Although for a streamer playing some games and recording at the same time, I could see these CPUs being useful.

Jesus Christ Dice.... You don't need those cores!

Extremely happy with AMD on this. Intel just lost the crown even if they released a 12 core CPU.

It's not so much just the extra cores I'm looking at, It's the extra PCI-E lanes, If Vega is as good as a 1080 Ti then I'll be getting 2 of them along with another NVME drive which all easily takes up 24 PCI-E lanes which is the limit of the 1800X, I'd like a bit of headroom :p

Exciting times these!

Well... I'm betting Intel has a 7960X in their back pocket - not that they're likely to be cheaper...

They do, It's the i9-7920X with 12C24T and 44 PCI-E lanes although as it's Intel it will be priced around £1000 higher than AMD' counterpart ^_^

No I really did mean a 16 core on top of that one, maybe held back to see what AMD does.

Ahh gotcha, Yeah expect a £2000+ price tag on that Intel chip ^_^

The 16 core Threadripper I'd imagine though will come in around the sub £1000 mark, £949.99 is my prediction, Considering it's just 4 x CCX modules stuck together where as the 1800X is 2 x CCX modules stuck together.

My guess would be: AMD £1100, Intel £2200-2400.
