So i have decided to get a 3D monitor (Just because i can), and i just wanted to know what monitor am i able to get with an AMD GPU? Nvidia has there fancy box that you use but AMD has nothing like that. Do i need a specific display or just one that is 3d ready?

i think you need a 1.4a HD ready and thats it and you also need to buy the software. Tridef 3D sell's it for £15 if you have a amd card you need to let it scan you pc for a amd card dont go paying £30 for it lol.

I have a radeon 6990. And is the software located on the AMD website? It would be nice if i could get a link.

There aren't m/any decent 3D monitors which aren't 120Hz I don't think

its gonna have to be a 3d tv mate. since the nvidia glasses are not supported and ati doesent have any solution of their own you need to buy a 3d hdmi 1.4 tv with its dedicated glasses... the only other option i can think of is those non stereoscopic monitors, but i dont know if i recommend them.

PS. The new 27 inch 3d monitor from acer might work with an amd gpu, not sure though..

Acer HN274H

"NVIDIA and HDMI 3D ready"

Comes with the nVidia glasses though, so you are going to want the Acer HN274HQ, which has slightly lower contrast ratio and no nVidia glasses, but has the Acer ones.

EDIT: Cannot find the HQ being sold anywhere, so you might be stuck when it comes to that specific monitor.

27 inch monitor:http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/model/ET.HH4HE.001

what is special about this one is that the 3d receiver is integrated in the monitor so you can use devices like a ps3 on it in 3d, unlike previous 3d pc monitors. it also has led backlighting which will give you brighter picture in 3d mode. the 3d vision glasses are included which kinda explains the high price. You would have to check if it also works with amd cards but im sure you'll find the answer somewhere on the net.

Deffo works with AMD, states clearly it supports 3D over HDMI.

Just the version without the glasses is rare, so unless you wanted to sell the glasses after....

EDIT: TheViewsonic v3d241wmis AMD 3D ready, but the thing is is that none of these monitors are particularly good. Most of the 3D monitors out there are designed to work with nVidia's 3D.

Also can't find the Viewsonic listed on the company's US website, only the UK one.

Well they could be 240Hz, but I think for nVidia 3d, then they usually opt for 120Hz. Plus nobody really has the hardware to need 240Hz, unless they place Dead Space 2 all the time.

Hello,

I heard about this monitor for a while ago and it may be just the thing for you, however im not too sure of a release date.

Also here is a video Linus did about it (He explains it a lot better than i can lol)

Hope this helps
