Alleged RX 480 specifications leak online

The point is I was hoping for a card closer to the performance of a 1070 at around 300$.

Don't get me wrong, 200$ for 390X/980 like performance is good, but I'd like to switch to both AMD and UHD but this means I'll have to wait for Vega. And it's at least 6 months away.

About overclocking... I hope that's like you said, but I'm afraid that OC issues which came with Hawaii and Fiji could still be a thing with Polaris. Still hoping for the "full" 2560 SP chip, I'm pretty sure that there is one.

This is one of those situations where patience is definitely a virtue. I want to go 4K on AMD as well, and by waiting for Vega we'll also be around to see what the GTX 1080 Ti can do. We'll be in a position to grab the best card of the generation, be it AMD or nVidia. Honestly I think anyone who buys a GTX 1080 now will be very green when the Ti hits. Six months will suck, but it'll be worth it.

All in all I'm actually quite happy that AMD is targeting the mainstream market first. They need market share and most of the market is under $300.
