All keyboard keys suddenly acting as shortcuts

Hello,
my cousin just called me up about his keyboard acting up. He says all keys are acting as shortcuts all of a sudden.

ALT puts it to sleep, Enter shuts it down, and apparently the Windows-key mutes the sound.

Im not there to see it for myself but I was hoping it might sound familiar to somebody, or is it just defective?

why would you assume its defective keyboard?

he ran a dodgy windows hotkey script and now he pays the price.

mouse will work fine, tell him to runs scans or just reinstall os depending on what else he has on it.

Sounds like Ctrl lock has been activated.

Hit shift 5 times and turn sticky keys off.

If it's a laptop, Fn+Ins or Fn+Del.

He's no PC wizard, he doesnt even know what 'script' means. Pretty sure it happened when he turned on the PC.

He checked control panel and sticky keys were not turned on.

as I said; he said keyboard is acting up, presumably mouse isn't. Tell him to dl malwarebytes (use on screen keyboard, found in accessories w7, fek knows where it is in w8), ideally run it in cameleon mode (found in program directory).

if above aren't succesful get a hirens boot cd or just windows installation disk and reinstall os.

other than that, not much we can help you basing on what your cousin told you.

He tested on a different PC, still the same. I assume a keyboard cannot re-program its keys by itself, so I told him to check for anything stuck in the windows-key or ALT GR... It cannot be software-related since he wouldnt even know how to use it, and its the same on two PCs.

What keyboard does he have? If it has on board memory, usually you can reprogram the keys do to other things on any pc.
