Alienware Aurora alx x79 Motherboard

Hi All,

Before anyone silently puts a bullet in the back of my head I'm just after some information if anyone has any on the motherboard in this particularly offensive piece of overpriced IT Hardware.

The only reason I ask is I know someone who is considering buying one for his kid, even though I've pleaded with him to let me build him something better for less money.

I know that most of the 1155 stuff was marked up with MSI part numbers, just wondered if this had continued as I can't seem to get any identification at all.

Just for some idea at the top end of the alienware range the amount you pay for the flashy lights and the aliens head badge is approximately £500.
That's complete and utter madness right there.

Cheers
Lee

Yep, Alienware is way overpriced. Beat your mate about the head and shoulders with a cricket bat until they give in and let you build the system for them lol At least say that a beating was recommended :D

Honestly though, I dont know what components Alienware uses these days as I've had no interest in looking at their overpriced rigs. Those dorky looking cases arent worth an extra $500. Ive heard horror stories from people that were stupid enough to buy them (against my advice) and when it came time for warrantee work.... nightmares.

Make sure you push that point to your mate.... warrantee work means shipping fees.... both ways. Not good. Better to buy parts locally and take a defective part straight back to the shop from which they got it - no shipping fees.

Alienware is all Dell and some Msi basically... Agree with Bang... Alienware is all about e-peen and anybody who knows anything sees right through it as a overpriced piece of bloatware crap... Steer clear of it unless you just have that huge of a boner for the light up alien head...

Well that's one question I always wanted to ask on this forum, what's your opinion on Alienware . A couple of years ago I was looking at them and decided , like the 2 posts above , it was just too much money. I didn't know about the warranty issues , I'm glad now I didn't get one .

After Dell bought Alienware, the original people who created it left and started Origin PC:
http://www.originpc.com/

I agree Alienware's are way too pricey - but Origin's are better made, and more reasonably priced I believe...
Not sure if you could persuade him that way instead - He'd probably get a better system out of it for a lower price.

Agreed it'll be better to make him one yourself - but Origin's at least still an option that doesn't involve giving any money to Dell.

OriginPc is very cool , I didn't know about them until this post.
They use Corsair cases for most of their builds . The Big O is pretty amazing looking , not sure of the price of it , but the others are fairly decently priced for what you get.

Afaik - the Big O is about $20k - as my mate said.

I love the idea of an integrated, watercooled xbox inside it :p
