anybody else use an akasa evo33 cpu cooler, my temps have gone through the roof. a64-3500 stock it idles @ 44.c

mobo is asus a8n-sli premium with ai fan control turned on

fan speed reads average 2860 idle.

i'm sure it used to be cooler and quieter

Have you checked for bad contact? What thermal paste are you using?

:)

Is the fan definately spinning ok? Is the heatsink dusty?

Sometimes if coolers take a knock it dislodges the settled paste and causes poor contact. Whip it off, clean out all the fins and fan. Clean the base, and the CPU. Re-apply the thermal paste and securely re-fit the cooler. It's worth using Arctic Silver 5 :)

found the problem, the backing plate that comes with the evo33 is crap, the nuts that are mounted in the plastic plate were just spinning round so i couldn't have tightened the retaining screws all they way. changed plate for the original amd one that came with the mobo and it's a lot better. idle temp down to 32.c i'll be sending the plate back to akasa
