advise needed on OCCT please

As a newbie to this who has enjoyed building my first rig , even though i have made a few mistakes , i decided over the last months to try and do a small overclock on my cpu.
After watching a couple of examples and reading articles on the web and oc3d , including Tom's on undervolting to start with , by just concentrating on core voltage , i had it down to 1.09v , ran occt in avx linpac mode and passed ok , then i tried cinebench , i had a slight stutter , so i increased after several attempts to 1.125v , and it run smoothly this time .
Now for the problem , i retested occt in avx/linpac all ok , so time to try using all logical cores , this part either comes up with an error , or it will freeze up , am i missing something , or just being thick,
I have reset cmos , and left as this , I've also loaded asus default setting and run again , although default only runs cpu up to 3.5 ghz and ram on 2133.
I'm using occt 4.5.1 ,30min run time , automatic setting , 90 percent memory use , i also try reducing memory use to 25 percent , made little or no difference ' If any can shed any light on what i am doing wrong would be helpful.
Cpu in use is i7-6950x with 32gb g.skill trident z 3200 mhz

You should post your CPU next time. That way in the future if you ever change your signature, people on the internet can still find this useful.

Assuming you are using the 6950x, what clock are you trying to aim for? And what are the temps? OCCT will automatically stop running if you hit a certain temperature on any core. The default I believe is 83C. You can change this but I would not go much higher.

Sorry my fault should have put in text, yes I am using 6950x,
As I'm just trying to find my way and learning about this sort of thing.
I was just trying to test stability at 4ghz first with less. Voltage than the default 1.25v. As I know the boards give more voltage than is needed,
I have a full custom water loop, split between gpu's and cpu,
Temperature at board stock settings with only xmp on ram set, is about max 62c using occt avx/linpac.

Try without AVX

after getting home a bit early today i have cleared cmos to start again , only reset xmp on memory , i have run cpu, occt , that ran ok apart from every now and then it froze up for 10/15 seconds , but it completed a 30 min run with a max temp of 62c, i then ran cpu/linpack 30 min run with 64 bit ticked and avx ticked , it completed its run with a max temp of 66/67c , so i then ran the same test with 64bit ticked and use all logical cores , and un- ticked avx , it starts ok starts building up , no temp spike that i am seeing and brings up error at about 35/40 seconds .
sorry to be so vague , but i can't see where i am going wrong at the moment

Try using something other than OCCT then. Because it seems OCCT is acting funny if your temps are fine and the PC doesn't shut off if the OC failed. This is all assuming of course you are doing it right. But if you try something else and it's not working then we know it's user error rather than software error. Don't take that offensively btw, you're new at it. It's half expected.

I was starting to think the same thing , more that user , has not quiet got it , rather than problem with hardware , and i'm not taking offence , i just trying to understand what i'm doing/have done wrong :)

Too all those that offered help , thank you
After many hours of tweeking /resetting and trying again ' i think i have finally got a basic understanding and a stable overclock.
I didn't go mad but have managed the offering below which i'm more than happy with

6950X @ 4.3GHz @ 1.256v
Cache @ 3300MHz
G.Skill ram running at rated 3200MHz
Neg offset of 300MHZ for AVX
i put the neg offset in for avx as the temp were climbing , but this stabilised them.

so again thanks for the help
