Advice on AV Amplifier and speakers

Hello peeps. Thinking of selling my trusted Genelec's and getting a home cinema system. Been looking at the Yamaha RX series and Harman Kardon AVR series amplifiers. Have no idea on the speakers, looking for a 5.1 system.

Basically what I want with this is to connect my computer, TV and xbox to the amp and get awesome sound in movies, music and gaming.

Does anyone got any recommendations on what to get, hopefully in a budget around 500€. Willing to get used stuff too.

Cheers.

The way home AV works is you spend 1/3 on the amp then rest on speakers to get the best of your budget!

Start by reading about the RXV377, for the lower end/beginner market its such an amazing Amp.

When it comes to speakers you are better off slowly building the perfect setup, from your left over budget you'll find it difficult to find a set a 5.1, so i would start by purchasing a set of floorstanders, then purchase a sub, followed by a centre speaker, then finish with rears.

Right, cheers.

the V377 looks sweet. so that's basically half my budget.

As for the floorspeakers, I took a look at the Proson Event 655 looks pretty decent and wouldn't break the budget either. suggestions?

And I got a crappy Logitech 8" woofer from a Z4 set that pulls a pretty decent Philips center speaker. Does the amp power the woofer or does it require an active woofer? if so it would be just plug & play.

The amp will require a active sub so the sub will have its own power etc etc

Those speakers dont look too bad spec wise, but without listening to them it would be hard to to say

Yeah, the speakers got really good reviews (only in swedish though). Gonna head out to a hifi shop and see if they got them in stock and if I could have a listen.

Thanks for all your help,

Cheers.

I got a Harmon Kardon 5.1 home theatre system, don't get HK, fucking AWFUL. Janky interface, IR remote (IR in this day and age on a $1200 system jeesus), takes MINUTES to pick up all folders from a DLNA source, midrange is non existent, NO WAY TO TUNE ALL SPEAKERS individually.....worst choice i have ever made on audio.

Avoid HK like the plague

There is probably a few people on here that know what they are talking about when it comes to audio equipment.

There is also nothing wrong with asking on a few different sites for input and whilst the advice may not, be the to the same standard on here as these so called "Audiophile" sites but it may still provide a basis of what to ask on sites with more adequately experienced users.

There's no point is putting down the whole amount of users just because you don't agree with someones comments.
