Adding another gpu to my pc

I have a i5 3570k with 8 soon to be 16 gb of ram. and a strix dc3 390x
But because i want to play at 1440, and be ready for virtual reality in the future i am thinking of adding another 390x to the system, but is the cpu beefy enough to handle two of thoose gpus.

And Would it run on a corsair AX 860

I would personally advise against it.

What case are you using though OP? If it was very well ventilated then maybe, however even if it is well ventilated I wouldnt really do it unless you are planning to watercool it. Especially if the CPU is on air or using an AIO as an exhaust.

390x coolers are pretty good. As long as it's balanced or positive pressure will be fine. Unless in an H440 or similar restrictive air designs.

Not wanting to hijack the thread but why would it be bad to use the AIO as an exhaust for overall case temps? I would have thought that would be better? I have my H100 exhausting out the top as I figured lower case temps would offset the slightly higher cpu.

Back to the OP - yes the 860 will be fine, your cpu will handle it and temps are about the only concern you may have. I run SLI 980s and under load I run my top card in the mid 70s and the bottom is about ten degrees cooler (Celsius Obviously) This is in a fairly breezy but quite old case (Corsair 500R for reference)

I do notice the room heats up a treat tho.

I know the 390x coolers are good. However it wont change the fact that there will be a lot of heat dumped from the bottom card, in turn affecting the top card. Even in standalone configs the strix reaches 85c+ on stock fan profiles.

For me I have tested the strix 390x CF is several cases and even when outfitted with quality Noctua fans the temps arent desirable. often in 90c+ when under load. You can make the top cards cooler work harder to offput some of it, however its still going to be a bit of a PITA.

Some are fine, just not the strix.

Jimma, exhaust is fine. I was referring to the increased heat from the GPUs getting exhausted and decreasing cooling.

Well he'll need to setup a proper fan profile(anyone should) if doing any sort of multi gpu on air. Asus loves to run there fan speeds really low and they don't ramp up until they get way to hot. If he can keep them both under 80C that should be a good balance between noise/temps. Asus coolers aren't as strong as others from AMD, but they should do just fine if OP has good airflow from top. If not, adding a fan in the bottom should help push the hot air out quicker and keep the bottom card cooler, which in turn helps the top one.

I know it won't match OP, but you should really try and see if you can get a MSI/XFX/Sapphire version of the 390x over the Asus. Much better coolers on those and should help temps if you are worried about them.

I use an aerocool strike x one but i have 2 intake 120mm fans in the front where my aio (h105) is placed (removed the covers to get better airflow, and 2 in the top removing hot air, the only reason i dont have the aio in the top, is because my ram is in the way, all the case fans are the arctic cooling f12 pwm the aio is running noctua nf-f12 and i have positive air flow

The asus is often in the higher 80's just with one card even if i have great airflow

If your willing to comprimise on either some performance (counter) or Acoustics and temps. Then by all means go for it. However if at all possible look for something like the Sappire 390 instead.

Another vote for the Sapphire cooler here ;) I have the Sapphire R9 290X Vapor X and my temps never go above 72C when gaming
