Activision Blizzard Reports Layoffs of 8% After Reporting Record Revenues

Always gotta love the top corporate leadership. Always getting bonuses.

Yeah it's awful. I mean I have nothing against top leadership being paid well but it's a kick in the face when staff are laid off but the company can still fork out for bonuses.

This doesn't promote a good culture and just increases the us vs. them divide between the bulk of the workforce and the leadership

And this is why I'm buying games from small studios and would never give a penny to EA and Blizzard. Management is important but not that important.

Corporate Greed

Can u imagine morale in a place like this.
No wonder Bungie quit ties so that destiny could be saved.

Hopefully they'll go into liquidation in a few years....

Honestly the world needs laws against this kind of business model, now 800 people get the shaft and have to find a new job purely because of some idiots on top that can't look past their own greed and stepping on people like ants.

Activision/bliz as a entity needs to die quickly.

Absolutely this.

Layoffs should always be done only when a company is losing money, not when reporting record income; this is pure greed.

Honestly. I hope the 800 use their severance pay to start their own studio and find great success with it.

People wonder why I have I have a pathological hatred for Activision

Actually its one reason why I quit WoW.

Gone are the days where the community mattered. Now its about greed and sales. Throwing cosmetic MT down your throat.

Community made so many suggestions and requests during alpha/beta and launch of Battle for Azeroth to remove certain aspects but they didnt care. They wanted to make it easy enough that anyone could subscribe and have fun.

Well it had the opposite effect as the subscriptions are bleeding heavily now, this expansion has padded out builds and options, but none of them are feasible meaning cookie cutter specs were enforced more than ever and class stacking were necessary. If it wasnt for Overwatch which is still extremely successful, i think Blizzard would be in trouble. The controversy and outcry from Diablo Mobile version infuriated millions.

Last month, Activision Blizzard took on Denis Durkin as CFO (Chief Financial Officer), who was given $15 million for taking the job, an award that consists of $11.3 million in the company's stock and $3.75 million in funds. This is on top of the job's $900,000 salary and $1.35 million target bonus.

I mean, (just) why give all of that to one person?... Especially give him $15 million just for taking the bloody job?. This is insane money, just to hire one damn person!

Well if his interview involved a plan of action that he promised would see them make 15billion, then its small change for them.

You're right, its ludicrous money, but we don't live in an age of millionaires anymore. We live in the era of Billionaires being more and more common place.
