active or passive rads

having upgraded to c2d, evga board and 8800gtx,air cooled at present. i am finding that both the 8800 and board downsides are the amount of heat generated,

i have 2 sets of alphacool maxi cora passive rads and 1 passive res left over from previous system but giving the heat issues, now wondering if its better to go active?

would 1 thermochill pa120.3 be enough to cool cpu,gpu and possibly room for n/b,s/b and 2nd 8800gtx [if i ever need it]?

A 120.3 with some powerful fans would provide decent temps with CPU+GPU and mediocre with cpu+gpu+nb/gpu2. You will want high diameter tubing to go with it too

You should have a look at Mullet's thread in the rig gallery. He's running a c2d and 2 8800gtxs and is getting pretty good temps with a PA120.3.

Active is the way forward matey!

I found passive a little pants, good if you want no noise or if you put it in a freezer! ;)

I wouldn't suggest you go passive. A little airflow is a lot better than none.

A Thermochill PA120.3 with low speed fans can get you decent water temps. Good luck!

thks all,more questions

the passive was ideal silent option before upgrade [6800gt fan!],will look at mullet's rig,

would put n/b,s/b on seperate loop

would 2*120.3 be overkill or give me more flexibilty long term?

would have to house the rads external in seperate case, can u get quick release fittings for the larger tubing?

i have a set of 10mm quick release fittings-if i used them would that affect the flow drastically?

also have 2 c-mag pumps- would want to re-use them?

1 120.3 is enough, but there are people who love overkill you know ;)

C-mag pumps aren't exactly good...I would seriously consider getting a new pump. DDC+ is excellent ;)
