Acer And Vista

i boot up, it wont post, because i have usb things in the usb ports, i then get the screen "vista did not boot up properly last time" ...well, no it didnt, because it died, and crashed, and rebooted, and wouldnt boot up, because of usb items in the usb ports, then i wait til that goes past, then frantically scramble behind the pc, and plug in the usb, as the vista bar goes across, only to find that it refuses to work with it, the mouse works, but the keyboard doesnt, i then go to install zonealarm, and it makes the whole pc crash and burn...

ARGH ...I'VE JUST HAD ENOUGH OF THIS

how so?

its an acer pc, only suposed to have one hard drive, but i have 3 atm in it, and it came with a gig of ram, i added another gig, ....i guess i may be overstretching the 250W generic psu a tad, but....ah well....

it will have to do, i have no money....not at the moment

and i think its a crappy bios, why i cant boot up with usb things in

Do you have the Zone Alarm compatible with Vista which is a beta?

I'd stay away from ZA until they release a stable final version for Vista.

Try leaving the keyboard and mouse out until you get to vista logon screen. Then plug them in once ur there and wait for 30seconds.

tbh, i couldnt find the vista version, but i now know not to install the XP version, kinda fatal, ...goes for XP version of most things it seems

and i have to plug them in, after post, but just 2 seconds before the vista green bars fly across the screen, or it wont recognise it...even then, only one in 2 or 3 times does it recognise both...

useless piece of software

useless piece of hardware too

it crashes for me, when i try and install my webcam drivers, they're xp versions, because there are no vista versions (DAMN YOU CREATIVE), or zonealarm ....which again, is xp,

folding doesnt work...well, no, it does, but it wont boot up in the background, i have to use it as a program on the front

and then it crashes if i try to do too much too

Acer Lappy with Vista ?

Cos my usb keyboard aint working on meh laptop either, haven`t looked into it yet tho. Detected it, installed it - but nothing.

yeh

wont boot up if there is ANY usb device, plugged into ANY usb port anywhere on the pc

but works fine in windows, with anything usb :S

Sounds like the problem I have installing XP with a G15 (usb keyboard) plugged in, just won`t have it. Works for some peoples tho I hear.

Do u have the mobo/chipset drivers installed ?

i have the G15, and it works fine in windows

however, when i boot up, if its plugged in, it will get to the Acer splash screen, and just freeze, until i reboot, and take EVERY usb device out of the usb ports

Vista is being gay with usb on my acer lappy too, so I think it's a general problem :\ (It's even more of a **** take considering it says Vista Capable on it)

the above sounds like a issue with the bios. You tried updating to the latest one?

As regards to installing software, make sure you stick to ones that are either known to work or made to work with vista.

Vista's been running fine for a couple of months on my acer C310 laptop.

easier to say than do....

so many programs, that are needed, and i cant risk it, cos it might not work with vista, damn this is frustrating...

on the up note

i havent had any viruses, spyware, or adware, or malware yet :D

Funny nathan mentioning that, if u goto an Acer homepage they do have Bios updates in their laptop section, in the Vista driver download part.

Could be a tweak, might be worth looking for one in the dt section.

if its freezing at the acer screen, well thats still in the bios, not yet booting the os.

I think there are also acer upgrade kits on acers website which will install the drivers and all that crap that comes with a brand new laptop :)
