About the new 9800

is it worth waiting for the 9800 to come out? i heard its going to be around $700 when its released, but how quickly will this drop in price? say.. at christmas? particularly boxing day o_O

im basicly using it just for crysis.. i may start practicing graphics editting, but still 8800 should be fine no? i know 3dsmax has high reqs..

Where did you get this information from?

I'd be very surprised to see a 9800 around until mid 08.

It seems like nvidia are releasing refresh models of the 8800's as well as the new GT.

AMD/ATi are gearing up for the NV670 cards which are dx10.1 compliant.

This is the very first I've heard about the 9800's apart from the speculative rumours around the net, which in most cases hold little truth

3ds doesn't require that much hardware mate :) i ran it fine on my 7800gt back when, and it runs on 6 series cards at work perfectly well :) and thats 6 7 8 9 and 2008 :) all worked fine on my 7800gt :)

what you need is RAM for rendering :)

I would have thought something professional like a QuadroFX would be better than any 8xxx for 3D studio stuff ??

What new 9800? There is no "9800" it was all just rumor.

However a souped up 128SP 8800GT is rumored, a current 8800gts with 640mb and 112/128 SP's is also rumored, and a dual 8800GT card is rumored to be the new high end card next year.

No high end single card until mid next year.

well i could always get two 8800's.. but crysis should run on med-high settings on dx10 shouldnt it?

im not too serious about 3d animation, just thought it'd be fun to learn and practice in my spare time. i think the 8800gtx would be satisfying

well if you want gaming power whatever you get will be more than ample to run 3ds max

if you're thinking 3ds max get a quadro card and worry less about gaming tbh

either way any kind of 8 series configuration will be FINE in 3ds
