Abit & Winchester Bios Probs....

If you buy the ABit MB and a Winchester CPU and find that it wont boot up coz you need to flash the BIOS here are the options..

1.. get a 130nm Chip and flash the BIOS.....

if thats not an option then you can always send the BIOS chip back to Abit UK and they will send you another one that has the latest bios version on.. (I have the address and details if you want...)

or you can HOT Flash your bios.... WOW...

For thoes that have no idea what that means.. Basically you need 2 PC's with the same BIOS chip (please check the internet for full instructions on this). You boot up the one that works with a boot disk and flash software and then while the PC is on take out that BIOS chip and put the one you want to flash and force a bios flash..

Check this guide. Read all the guide first

Thats what I did and after 3 attempts and some change of underwear it worked and I have a Abit MB with a winchester CPU working.. hehe :D

Warning.... HOT Flashing is not recommended if you have the following conditions. Heart Problems, High Blood Pressure or any nervous disposition.... If in doubt please consult your doctor for further advice.

LOL Very good mate. Been wondering how to do this for a while but could never be bothered to find out. All I need now is a mobo and chip to play with :p.

By the way, I'll make this thread stuck.

Cheers

Yeah.... tis a bit daunting to begin with, but as long as your careful no problems should arise.

The usual suspect for the hot flash donor board is the ABIT NF7 as I have found it alot easier with this board :).

I used the NF7 to flash my mates NF7-S (a bit easy I know :P) and my Shuttle SN45G.

I know there are some parameters you need in order to flash using a different board as it will kick off that your flashing to a BIOS not for that board (the NF7). I will have a dig about see what I can come up with

As i was using two different motherboads I had to force the bios flash which I think was this command

A:>awdflash <FILENAME>.BIN /py /sn /cd /cp /cc /R

if you had two pcs wouldnt it be safer to just swap cpus.

Could use a bios saviour flash that then turn off the PC's and then install the bios saviour in the other mobo just seems a little safer :)
