I remember hearing a while back that AMD64's and half multi's were bad.

As i recall it had some negative effect on memory bandwidth (correct me if i'm wrong).

However, i was wondering if anybody knew if this affected the Venices & Diego's - as i remember it being a problem on previous memory controllers?

I've just run some tests and using Sandra, half multi's do not hit my memory bandwidth performance...but is there anything else i should be looking for...

Jim as i recall this problem was only apparent on the s754 platform as far as i remember. Someone ply correct me if im wrong. May have only been the dtrs too but im pretty sure it was a socket wide problem.

no sir , nothing has been fixed . The problem exists for both sockets as of now.

Any half multiplier runs a divider on your ram.

so with an 8.5x300 cpu fsb , ur memory should be around 250 mhz or so . ( i cant remember which ratio it runs though ) .

this is becoz of the mem controller being on the cpu die.

so as long as u have the mem controller on the cpu , half multis are bad news.

neither venice nor sandiego have this problem fixed as well .
