A Wee Bit Of Advice Req.

If any of you learned gentlemen could point me in the right direction, I'd be eversograteful ;)

As a departure from buying from chain retail outlets  I'm now on the road to building my own toy. Pre-build machines don't have all the gubbins that you want/need and are too expensive.

So far I have:-

EVGA 780i (bought cheaply from fleabay)

Q6600 Slakr (going to do a moderate overclock )

And I'm heading in the direction of :-

Antec 1200 Case

2x2GB DDR2 8500 OCZ Reaper

WD5000AKS/WD6400AAKS

Corsair HX1000/HX620/TX750 PSU

GTX280

Tuniq Tower 120

It would be on air at first. Then as more money becomes available SLi and then liquid cooled. I'd be using it for all the normal stuff and, of course, gaming. Fed up of trying to play good games on slow rubbish machines

I would be delving into a bit of video editing as well at some point :D

Whaddyaall think ? Any advice and pointers gratefully received. TIA :hands:

Only thing that i might flip is the mobo. If your not planning SLI then a Intel chipset would suit better. But you already have it so may as well stick the course.

Maybe swap the 1200 for a PC7 II+ though :D

I think the WD6400AAKS has 2 320gb platters and therefore will perform better than the WD5000AKS. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Personally i'd probably hit the Samsung F1 750GB for hard drive, performs on par with the WD 320GB platter model but it's better value with more space... works out better GB/Pound.

Also i'd just hit a huge PSU 1000w and defo either go for coolermaster or Corsair, lets face it you want plenty of head room there, and no doubt eventually you'll prob add extra GPU's...etc, and you can always take it to your next build, plus both those brands should hold out, and have great efficiency. I think the coolermaster might be a lil bit better value.

You can prob save a few pennies on the Ram too if you go for the PC2-6400 2x2GB OCZ HPC Reaper and set them at the same freq, timings & volts as the higher models. Everyone seems to be able to hit the same frequencies as the higher models with the same timings, and they are cheaper, they are most probably the exact same modules!!! PLus OCZ always give you free extra volt protection for overclocking.

As for the case well i think this is a question of personal taste, i myself am hitting the CM Stacker 832 as it has everything i want and need albeit expensive, it's spacious, great cooling features, plain black and sleek design, solid, and very user friendly, and it also has great potential for water cooling in the future. I guess it's what you want out of a case really, best to make a short list of whats important to you in priority and find the case.

As for the rest the tuniq tower is a fantastic cooler for it's price, especially as it comes with a fan, and seen as you have a nVidia chipset it makes sense to go with their GPU's it'll keep you options open for SLI later if need be, just make sure your not overkilling your GPU power for the resolution your gaming at, i think you could get better value if your gaming on a small screen, the 280 at it's current price point would be a waste on a 15" screen for an example.

Hope this helps

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the case that you have chosen. It is better at cooling than the Lian Li, and probably close in build quality.

I wouldn't go for the 500GB drives now. The 640GB drives are faster and don't cost much more. Move the Tuniq Tower up to a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with a Scythe S-Flex fan.
