Just out of curiosity, and it may be a silly question (sometimes the silly questions are the easiest to answer!) but what is that little whole in the corner of the processor for? What is its purpose? Is it supposed to be left clear or doesnt it matter if thermal compound gets in there and clogs it up?:D

no question, no matter how simple is silly. :D

and what cpu do you mean? you mean on the 478pin cpu's?

I assume (I was told its never good to assume as most of the times you will just make an ASS out of U and ME!).... it to be a 478pin cpu but I know for sure its a P4 2.4ghz Northwood if that helps:D

Nice one Toxteth O'Grady. I used to generally avoid that little hole when applying thermal compound and used to keep the hole clear of blockage:o but now I can say Im wiser!:D Cheers matey:beer:

I thought it was to let the smoke out, because as you all know PC's run on smoke - let it out and the PC stops working. :D
