A free-to-play Middle-earth MMO is in the works

I played the original LOTRO when it first came out and also recently to see how it was going, While it's a good game it hasn't aged very well, Performance is not what it should be, Character animations/movement are very staccato and the game overall has many issues that could only really be fixed with a complete engine overhaul so this new game coming out is good news.

Yeah I feel the same. I want a new LOTRO.

I'd prefer to see Warhammer online return, or the unreleased Camelot unchained. The pvp in that is going to be immense.

Its one of the few games focussed on gameplay over graphics. So far so good. Mass scale warfare is enjoyable without it being a blob fest.

Super excited. Never was into MMOs but it's LOTR. So I'm hooked regardless:)

Damn right, One of the biggest things for me will be the music and as they are basing it around the movies and the books I'm hoping they'll use some of Howard Shores music :)

I hope they dont base any of it on the movies. The books were fantastic but the movies did not do it justice at all. There is a reason why we have standard/extended/directors cut versions. They couldnt get the content right since there is so much. Movies are still outstanding of course. but the books... just WOW.

The books have it all. Start there and only there. This could be a good project. Just hope it doesnt fail like the neverwinter nights MMO that was F2P

Oh you're one of them are you, book nerd! :D

Pretty sure LOTRO was based on the books, or at least some of the early ones.

You joking? I'm reading the book now. The movies are pretty damn close to the books. There's a reason it's considered the best movie book adaptation of all time if not the best. Both were phenomenal. You can't really make a movie long enough for all of the books. It's just to dense. They highlight the important parts very well and gave them the depth they needed

And yes I'm a nerd. I have Anduril The Flame of the West sword hanging next to my bed.. I watch LOTR (all 3 extended cuts) probably once a month if not more, and I'm reading the book, plus have about 8 other Middle Earth books I plan on reading after I finish the main one. Am I a nerd? Yeah. Don't care though. Everybody has something they love. That's why I study computer science and plan to one day be able to join a Dev team working on a Middle Earth project and give it the justice it deserves. :) (Not the sole reason but it's a bonus since I like programming)
