ok.

this what i have.

7 x 70watt rms satellite spakers - thell all have phono plugs.

i now need to look for a Amp that can provide 7.1 output and powerfull enough to pump a 150watt-200watt range Sub.

my budget.......3-400quid.

any one can give me some pointers?

OOooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo

i was looking at that last night too!

but! when i asked my cousin, whos into all these HiFi thingys, said Sony has a GREAT budget amp.

http://www.richersounds.co.uk/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=SONY-STRDA1200

and this sub - http://www.hifibitz.co.uk/product.asp?id=3442

is also a GREAT budget entry level sub too.

i have no idea if hes talking out of his arse or not, LOL, im still trying to find out as much as i can on how to connect everything up.

heres the problem im facing....

those Satelite speakers i have, all have Phono plugs, and these Amps all have clip/screw bare wire type speakers out put connections.

so, do i cut the phono plugs, strip a few mm off, and clip/screw the wire into back of Amp and im done?

and also, the Sub, it has its own power right? or eles how will my Amp have enough power to move it?

im brain dead in searching.....

any pointers?

PS, what is the best way to connet it all up? say, for example.

i have a X-Fi sound card, what do i use to connect sound card output to Amp? im thinking like, Mini Jack -> Phono cables, Mini Jack to X-Fi, Phono to Amp. right?

but then, how does i get surround sound? as X-Fi has all these Sub, Front, Center outputs.........

blah.....must find a numpty guide on google before i jump for these new toys...

From the X-Fi card does it not have a top digital mini-jack that you can use to output digital sound. I'm not sure as I have the front IO panel but you may wanna look into that.

On the Sony amp yes it is good but personally I prefer the pana, and the Arcam's are just Sex.

Active subs have their own power, the amp would output the sound and power the rest of your setup. That Wharfdale is nice, or you could pick up a sweet MS 409 or the MS 309

i just checked, the back of the X-Fi does indeed have a digital mini-jack.

i've searched but havent a clue how that connects to the amp.

do i use a mini-jack -> 2 phono and thats it?

avforum doesnt have anything i can see that covers it......they talked about other ways like 3 mini-jacks -> 2 phono to amp, but nothing on digi mini-jack out put...

blah....brain dead!

This is what I don't know, but seing as it's a full digital output I'd imagine there is some way to get 5.1 out of it :eh:
