So I finally built my new machine (specs in sig!) but, as with every newbie, I'm running into problems that google-fu cannot fix as they seem to be quite specific...And rather than clogging up each respective forum with my problems I thought I'd condense them all into one lump cry-for-help thread. Rest assured i'm sure i'll find more problems than I currently know about
1. Speed step
So, as far as I can tell, my speed step is not working and I have no idea why not. The BIOS is up to date, and I think i've set all the appropriate settings in the bios so it should work (The lowest non-turbo frequency set at 16x, the turbo set at 34, Speed step is enabled and i've checked CPU-Z whilst the CPU usage is 0%) but it is simply sitting at the turbo speed. I have shut down practically every process I can besides CPU-Z and still it sits at the turbo speed. I am officially stumped.
2. PEX_VDD
To overclock my GPU Asus have kindly given me GPU-tweak and one of the settings I can tweak is PEX_VDD. It took me a while to find out what the hell that even is (PCI-E Lane voltage, right? or something like that) but I've yet to find a single source anywhere telling me whether it is safe to fiddle with that voltage and, more importantly, what the point of increasing/decreasing the PEX_VDD voltage is. This being a problem I'm finding with a lot of overclocking programs/guides - Plenty of info on what to mess with, but absolutely no info on why you would mess with one setting or voltage over another.
3. Overclocking
If you have any tips for OCing just feel free to yell them out, I don't currently have a problem (per say) other than I dont know what i'm doing so any advice would be grand
