No, Chrome doesn't automatically sync your browsing history with Google if you sign i

Don't get why people are so fixated on privacy, as soon as you connect to the net that's gone no matter what they think.

Not if you use a VPN for example :) And it's not really being "fixated" on privacy, personally, it's more that I cherish my integrity and privacy.

Just because you "connect to the net", doesn't mean that your entire life should be stolen, monitored and sold away without your consent. You wouldn't let a stranger into your own home just like that, would you?...

Bingo, Just because I go on the net doesn't give some company a right to my inner leg measurements, It's why I use a VPN as well as a few plugins for privacy and private browsing.

Because they need to complain for the sake of it.

They don't like Google getting their data, but they are happy to post on facebook and instagram what they ate for breakfast, lunch and evening meal on a daily basis.

I couldn't give AF if the entire world got my browsing history, even if it was to some dubious site. I have nothing to hide. If people feel that their entire life is being stolen online... then how about not being online and get out in the real world where it matters.

Well first off, not everyone posts daily on every social media there is. That doesn’t mean that you give your concent to get your life and details stolen.

Regarding that last part, saying that is just so naive. That is your opinion if you don’t care or what not. We’re all different and care about different things. That is like telling people not to go outside just because they might feel scared of being attacked.

And today, everything is connected, wether you like it or not. That doesn’t mean you still have to accept these facts. Regardless of what you do on the net.

There are stuff like integrity and ”personal details”, they are called that for a reason. And just because you go on the net, doesn’t mean that it changes to ”public details”.

GDPR protects you. If your personal details are being stolen, that is now on you. I'm just tired of people claiming the whole Big brother thing, or companies getting our details. And those I come across claiming these (as in people I have met) are the ones who spend their lives online. Or face locked into their phone every minute they are outside. We are from 2 different generations. I don't feel the need to put my life online. The only personal details I have are the Norwegian registry and my bank account which are both highly protected for obvious reasons. Anything more than that, well people can do what they want with it, none of it is sensitive.

But anyway, you are more protected now than ever before. Companies are no longer allowed to purchase, or provide a single piece of personal data about you unless you give permission. However if you make it public they can do what they want provided it falls in these categories.

The processing of personal data is for legitimate interests pursued by the data controller.
Processing has been consented to by the data subject.
Processing is of vital interests to the data subject.
Processing is in the interest of the public.
Processing is required for the performance of a contract.
Processing is required to comply with a legal obligation.

I mainly dig VPNs since they make unsecured wifis secure. But using VPN for all browsing basically means trusting the VPN provider with your browsing data over your ISP. That's not always optimal in my opinion.

Though yeah, it does make yourself less identifiable on websites since it usually is a shared IP address. But unless you put serious care on your setup, you're still easily identifiable if some party cares enough to do so - browser fingerprinting is difficult to circumvent.

Privacy concerns are valid with companies profiting off targeted ads, but I don't really see VPN as the solution. Solution is to avoid companies which don't care about your privacy and blocking their cookies and scripts on websites (µMatrix is great for this). But not using any Google's services is quite inconvenient for someone used to them...

Honestly I'm not even that concerned about Google and FB, I'm just yet another regular user to them. But I do try and keep personal information on the minimum on websites which don't really need it, since data breaches are frequent. A forum doesn't need to know my birthday, nor does a video game company need my address.

That’s what pretty much every VPN out there say and claim ^_^

No actually most say they log very little and say what they log. PIA has the best history of logging basically nothing. They of course log in real time during payment and such as they need to make sure your payment details are real but it's not stored. The only thing they could possibly log is your username so you can log in.

Well from my own extensive research on VPNs, I disagree with this.

Nord are supposed to be a great VPN they don't keep any data and have even gotten into trouble for not keeping data but they said they won't change that policy no matter what

that's ignorant. every service "spies" on you. By you're logic we should avoid basically all forms of computers and the internet.

From the many friends and family I have in America I've noticed this use of the word *ignorant* quite a lot over the years compared to other english speaking countries, Tiz very cringy ^_^
