8800GTX Overclock

I’ve got an 8800GTX that I recently water-cooled, I want to overclock it so I can get even more out of there beast! :P What’s a sensible Core Bus and Memory Bus to set it to? My Temps at the moment IDLE are about 40*C and with a load it will only max out about 45*C Hers what my Nvidia CP looks like at the mo.

i would up the speeds around 5mhz on core, and 10mhz on memory, and then save and test it out in games.

also, download and install ATI TOOL and use the artifact scanner in there. usually around 10 minutes or so w/o any artifacts, its considered 'stable'

btw, are u on vista or xp atm? i cant get that OC feature in vista

Download 3dm06. Install. Run, write down your score.

Download RivaTuner. Install.

Download RTHDgdfgdhfg lighting demo here. Install.

In rivatuner simply raise the core mhz and press test. Open hardware monitor in riva. Open RTHDblah. The graphs should change to the higher values. If all seems good - repeat.

At intervals run 3dmark06 and check your score. There will come a point where raising your core will lose you points or you will get artifacts (black/white lines, strange texturing). Back down to your safe value.

Next memory. Do the same.

Core first, mem second.

I benched my 8800GTXs last night with set at 630/1000.

I've had absolutely no issues at all with artifacts. As Mr Smith says really....ramp up the core then memory...if you do both you'll not be able to isolate the component which is causing artifacts/issues.

What software did you use to do it?

Last time I tried the 100+ nVidia drivers, I had to download an extra tuner thingy (which it looks like u have). Therein was a stress testing routine thing, that might be useful.

Be aware that the memory clock is 2x what it shows on the slider. U got 900, so it`s 1800. Every1 except me knew that when I tried it lol.

Wouldn`t stress the memory too much early on, as imo getting the gpu clock in a nice place is both more important and easier to know that if u`r changing 1 slider at a time, if it goofs - u`ll know which to move back down.

Rivatuner.

Give it a bash.....don't be too scared....just raise the values in small increments and run the test as outlined by Mr Smith, if you see artifacts simply back things off a little. For reference I used the values which are published for the OC'd versions of these cards....mine GTXs are vanilla and they OC well enough.

I just put it to your clocks and it works fine :) i got about 20FPS more on that floating ball thing lol

Nice one!

Why not push it some more. The gains are relatively small but small gains can push your 3DMark scores above those of your fellow OC3Ders.... :D

I'd settle on that for now and give some lengthy gaming sessions a bash. If the cards hold up then it's all good. One useful feature of Rivatuner is it allows you to record GPU temps whilst gaming, always handy.:)

my gtx is running

700

1150 thats 2300 effective tamps idle is 40 49 on load

1600 shader and all is well play 6 houres of games a day every thing on max

and rember no two cards oc the same even tho the could be exacly the same so keep pushing till you get artifacs then take about 10 to 20 mhz of each and all should be well

Iv got it up to 658/1054 and anyhigher just makes it crash! dont get any artifacts its just crashes!

Back it down 10mhz or so from its limit, its to be safe, 10mhz isnt going to affet a lot of performance anyway.
