AMD's RX 64 Launch pricing was only for "early sales"

Damn. I'd expect this kind of crap from Intel and Nvidia but this is a new low for AMD. I've been planning a Vega 56 build and was willing to accept the power draw issues as I wanted to support AMD through this rough patch but with them pulling moves like this I'll just buy whatever gives me the most performance for my cash once it's ready; maybe one those £450 GTX 1080's...

its a absolute disgrace, its a total lie that amd were selling these cards at 499 msrp

according to gibbo from ocuk

" Black stand alone card was $499 for a set launch quantity, which is now all sold, as such now all you can buy from OcUK is the bundle packs, Black and Silver which are $599 or the Aqua which is $699.
Stand alone is no more, unless AMD say so."

"AMD have being told by me, stand alone cards, need to be £449 for VEGA 64 and £349 for VEGA 56, permanently, not just for launch or restricted to a certain volume but permanent. They are worried about miners but we can alleviate that with 1pc per customer, hell I'd even set up voucher codes if AMD wanted it off the radar so loyal customers and forum members could bag 1pc at the LAUNCH pricing. I will keep pushing, because at £449 VEGA 64 is a fantastic bit of kit and VEGA 56 at £349 bargain of the century.

I will push AMD very hard to make this happen, but for it to happen AMD need to support it, because without their support we would make a horrific loss and well if we lose money, then we'd be better off not selling it, FULL STOP! Won't stop pushing because at such prices they will fly, but then on the flip side AMD need to be able to give me like 10,000 units minimum to keep the product in stock and keep with demand.

But we won't stop pushing, I think to be frank AMD are a little shocked with how fast our stock went, I think they themselves have under-estimated how many gamers there still is on HD 5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx and 290/390 series who wanted and do still want to upgrade to a card from AMD either because they are loyal, like AMD or have a FREESYNC monitor or are planning a FREESYNC monitor purchase."

amd screwing over customers left right and centre.....

Wow...Just....Wow...

If this £100 price hike is here to stay, then that's my plan of upgrading priced out the window. At this rate, I will probably save for longer then go for Volta when that drops because I utterly doubt Navi will be out before that, nor beat it

I see no reason at all why would anyone buy Vega. They are more expensive, or same price as Nvidia cards, use a lot of power, way more than Pascal cards, and yet they deliver lower or same performance depending on situation.

Ryzen is serious win for AMD because it offers similar performance for lot less money. Vega is complete miss for AMD, unless they hope they will sell a lot of cards to miners, which may be true.

How about if you had spent £700 on a Freesync monitor? what would you do then? ditch it and lose loads of cash and then buy a G-sync screen (with its £200 premium) and a 1080Ti?

I've been hanging around on the OCUK forums asking people why they bought it. And it does make sense. Ditching a monitor is expensive business, as I found out myself. That is why I bought 70hz Freesync. So I can throw power at the issue and use Adaptive Vsync which works very well indeed. I will no longer feel held to ransom over sync, it's madness.

But yeah, AMD were busy selling Freesync monitors since the launch of Fury X and that has left a lot of people held to ransom. And that is why they are selling, because most are coming from 290s and the 64 is a big deal compared to that.

Ed. Oh yes, the £449 "BS price". It's, well, BS. If the card was actually £449 then it wouldn't be so bad. Same price as the lowest tier 1080 but at least you get to keep and use Freesync. Adding crap and then sticking the price up £100 is just BS of the highest order.

Amazing this is the same company who gave us Ryzen. Just utterly shocking behaviour.

AMD said „We bring up High-End Enthusiast Graphics card”
-> Short before release they bid the reviewers to focus on midrange RX56 – it should be the more competitive card.

In 2016 AMD said “take 2 x 480 instead of GTX1080 – better value for your money”
In 2017 the show again Crossfire-Setup with 2 x VEGA and Ryzen-CPU in Prey 4K.
-> Now they say, there will be no more focus on crossfire in the future

At the beginning of the month AMD said “We bring up VEGA for 499$” (425€ with exchange rate to germany)
-> Now it´s 760$ here (650€)

I was a big fan of AMD with Duron, Athlon, Phenom, Bulldozer.
And a big fan of Ati/Radeon with my X1600, X1950, HD2900, HD4890, HD7870XT, R9 290X, 2 x R9 FuryX

But now I see GTX1080ti (with blower or axial-fan) for just 25€ more, in comparison to simple RX Vega 64 black edition. At the same time 1080ti delivers 25-30% more performance in 4K - for only 25€ more.

Tell me AMD – why I should decide for your 300W GPU today? I´m very disappointed and should better never sold my second FuryX a few weeks ago..

And I don´t need your bundles – I´ve Ryzen, X370 Mainboard, Prey and 4K FreeSync Monitor since months and years! Really need to say, that I don´t like your new way of marketing AMD & Radeon!

What AMD needs to do is release more standalone RX Vega products, as these bundles are not helping this situation.

AMD needed to be clearer about this situation and reviews should not have been based on the £449 price if it is only temporary.

What consumers need right now is clarification, as the blame for this is being thrown everywhere from retailers to miners and everyone in between.

Is this the same person that claimed Vega was twice as good at mining than it actually is?

That's what i'm saying. I'll believe this story when it's verified. Sounds unlikely to me. nVidia already laughed at the launch basically and Vega hardly set the world on fire.

Ok so I need to say a wtf here, I was excited for this and now a price hike is imminent... I was refreshing my page quite a bit on newegg on release day 0:0, also checking other websites and when the cards finally became visible for purchase they were already sold out. Not to mention that most of these cards probably went to miners so they are getting a grand deal. Looking at ebay only left a disgusted taste in my mouth.

Dead.On.Arrival.

Yup, and now dead out of stock.

It's pretty obvious what has happened here. AMD are obviously full of s**t and I was also right about the "won't have cards at launch".

Basically there is obviously a major shortage of Vega cards, so AMD have done a "sell what you have" launch. They are now obviously out of cards, so god knows how long it will be until there are more available.

Absolutely shocking behaviour tbh. Just an outright s****y thing to do to your loyal fans.

they were not confident their card was worth the REAL price so they advertised a fake one, get good reviews and then jack up the price with the real freaking price.

deception 10/10

i really hope there is a misunderstanding...

I think that at the end of the day they just could not make enough cards. So the very few that are left? they are going to want a high price for. But yes, it's deception either way. Every reviewer quoted the "lower" price and thus reviewed them as such. Some review sites were actually quite kind and awarded them too.

They had already peed me off to the point of buying Nvidia before they even launched it. Now? they are actually making me want another Nvidia card next time. And I really can't tell you how badly they needed to behave to do that...

I would say total FAIL launch, here in spain the consumer price of vega 64 is 621€ - at the same time you have 3d parties like gigabyte with their windforce oc 1080 (tripple fan) at 599€.

To make things worse then the NON OC version is 575€ and the MSI ARMOR is also 575€.

If we go up to the Aorus Extreme then we are at 609€.

Very very very disapointed. Thank God that i did not wait for vega and got my self a 1080ti.

I'm not sure how Radeon is going to survive after this. Maybe AMD have a way, but with Ryzen's success, Radeon could become solely a compute card manufacturer.
