80GB PS3 to arrive 28th August

Very cool :) but i still got my 40gb new with a game, controller and later dual shock 3 for cheaper :)

was £250 with my staff discount in march :D

aren't they compatible with any 2.5" SATA drive?

why not just get the cheapest model and stick a 7200rpm 250GB HDD inside if you're worried about capacity instead of paying Sony's premium for the bigger (but still small) drive? Plus you get a faster drive...

or is that too technical? :D

Its not too advisable to get a 7200RPM drive unless it runs very cool, but yeah you're right, any laptop SATA drive....including SSD :D

Ahh, never thought of using an SSD in there Kemp.

Can you confirm it actually works? If so, Sony could make the PS3 smaller in size..

Ahh makes sense Bloomerz

@SuB: I don't think so, it's PS1 backwards compat but not PS2. I don't really see the point of playing last gen games on it really, but each to their own :)

i like my ps1 classic games

and my ps2 games are still good, and when put on a proper telly, with a wireless controler, they're even better...

i wish my ps3 was backward compatable :(

i dont understand this with the consoles makers, why they have to mess around with hard drives. They should just leave the hard drive and make you buy one (from either sony or a 3rd party).

It would work out cheaper for the console maker as they wouldnt have to carry so many sku's.

TBH if you're that bothered buy a mega cheap PS2 slim ;)

@nathan: I agree, especially for the PS3 where Sony actively support and encourage users to swap out HDD's

but a cheep ps2 slimline has a wired controler, and doesnt output via hdmi...

Meh, you're not going to get nice quality from an older game anyway, as I said I can't see the point in playing last gen games on a new console

No but don't get me wrong I can see your point, it's just I buy a next gen console for next gen games, not to play old classics on there and hell if I wanna do that I can buy em in the Live arcade or Sony Store

i buy a next gen console, for the next gen games, but thats only one of the reasons, and thats shadowed by features, i prefer one with features, hense why i like the ps3, and its F@H, and its good music player

and networking features, and everything else its got going for it

backward compatability is a must too, cos usually i have to trade in the console below said next gen console, to get the next gen console...

so being able to play the games on it makes it all that more worth it, because if i havent completed the previous gen games by the time the next gen console comes out, i wanna be able to finish them before i move onto the next gen console.......
