7950 Fan buzzing

NeverBackDown

AMD Enthusiast
Alright guys. My 7950's left fan is starting to make a buzzing/ ticking noise. Not loud enough to record on camera but I was doing stuff and I heard it and when i stop the fan with my finger the noise goes away.. that mean it's on it's way out?

I should also mention it gets louder and louder as the fan kicks in. Kinda worries me tbh. I have a potential useless GPU and my H100i needs to be replaced as well.. Wonder what's next?-_-

Can't you get a replacement fan anywhere? maybe look on the bay for a faulty card which you can use for spare parts :)

I found a heatsink/shroud/fans from a 2x series card with the Twin Forzr 4 cooler on the bay. I asked if he was sure it would fit on a reference pc for a 7950 and he said yes they are interchaneable but i still have doubts because he said they also fit 290's and 290x's.. they don't use the same PCBs

Does he know which msi model they came off if its the R9 280 or 280x they should fit :)

No clue. He described them as 290x/290/280x/280/7970/7950 compatible but the Frozr 4 cooler was only fitted to the 200 series cards. I don't know if the PCB is the same for 280x/280? I can ask him for more detail I suppose, figured I would trust everyone here more though. If it did end up fitting, would be rather amazing since the Fozr 3 cooler is kinda loud:p

The 280/280x are just rebranded 7950/7970 hope this helps you mate :)

EDIT: is this your card? if it is it uses a reference pcb

I know they are rebranded i just don't know if the 280x/280 use the same pcb as a 7970/7950:p
Ya that's my card and it's got a reference pcb, just don't know if the other one does. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it but it's $40 for what he wants and that's kinda expensive when I have new cards coming out soon.. what would be the best course of action? Just selling the card as is used Or fixing it up and then selling it? I figured I could only get about $100 for it and that could go to a new gpu

just sell it then for what you can get and move on :)

I bought the fan replacements instead of the whole thing. So'll be getting new fans and i'll just include them when I sell the card or i'll replace them as i've never done that before, would be a good little experience! I just don't want to sell it and then they complain a fan is broken and I have to go through that whole issue of giving back a refund etc. I'll just up the price of it a tad with the extra fans.

If you replace the fans yourself mate you will gain a lot more than just money and while you are at it replace the thermal compound on the gpu it will be a good experience for you and give you satisfaction :)

Ya i also bought thermal pads and a T6 torx driver. Pretty sure it has a t6 since last time i went to take it off i couldn't because i didn't have the t6. I'm spending money to fix it just to sell it.. there's go my profit margin!:p

Next thing you will be wanting to waterblock your new gpu much fun to be had :D

I still want to water block my Vapor x but it will have to be Alphacool as EKWB have discontinued the block for my card :(

I'm just waiting for the return money on my DOA motherboard to come in

So far i've spent $50 to fix the GPU and just waiting on my shipments. I'll probably only get about $70 because I plan on selling it now less than $120 as i've seen many sell for $150. $70 towards my next GPU? Won't help much if they cost $500 lol it'll just cover my tax and shipping:p
