780ti which one?

Hey peeps,

I am thinking of upgrading soon. It depends on a few small things but I wont bore you with that. Anyway I am looking at the 780ti's and I am wondering which one would be best. I saw the gigabyte review that Tom did and it looks interesting but I am not mad about the looks of it if I am honest. The Msi one I think I read somewhere on here it was good but it wouldn't really fit in my rig colour wise but I could make it work potentially if it was the best card. I was also looking at the phantoms and they look good but I am worried about the 2.5 card width.

I am wondering what would people recommend, remember I will be running them in sli and more than likely wont be water cooling them anytime soon so they do not need to be reference.

Last question is I will be selling my 680's if I do go 780's but I havn't a clue what they are worth so what would they be worth if sold today?

I am more akin to selling car parts rather than pc parts so pricing things would be new to me.

Anyway thanks for any help.
 
I'd go with the EVGA Superclocked version, it's what I'm considering for later. They have the stock cooler so look great and exhaust out your case, have supposedly better clocking out of the box, and plus EVGA don't set your warranty on fire if you do decide to water cool later (I know that's not important to you, but is to me and others :)).
 
i am surprised i haven't seen a single post telling you to get a 290x. oh well.

i personally love the looks of the reference cooler and then it all comes down to warranty.

Get a 290x!
If you can find the Asus DCU2 290x or Sapphire Tri-X 290x for cheaper than a 780ti then in all honesty get it. The performance is equal and if its cheaper then why not? They also OC very well and when OC'd they get massive performance increases(aka they scale well at higher clocks).

The Asus DCU2 290x is a custom PCB but EK plan on releasing a block for it.
The Sapphire Tri-X 290x is a reference PCB.. also the best 290x card on the market.


In the end i would still recommend the 290 over a 290x/780ti. Much cheaper but performance is still very close.
 
Lol, NeverBackDown, almost on cue!

It's a tough decision, especially if water cooling to tame the heat. I've not had an AMD card since 4850 (or was it 4870...). If keeping stock though, I'd swing towards Nvidia.

Thanks peeps for the info so far. I have been looking at the EVGA acx and I think they are really cool looking, The only thing is the msi and gigabyte ones are 50 quid cheaper and I was wondering if there was some sort of thing where one of those cards performs far above the rest. If they turn out to be equal within reason I may just splash out on the EVGA cards as I like the look of them.

The reference design kinda dosent do it for me anymore for some reason. Maybe its just because I have seen them on loads of different cards for a while now or something silly like that. Don't get me wrong I still think they look cool but maybe a bit common if ya get me. Plus they are more or less the same price as the aftermarket ones, they may be a bit cheaper but not by a whole lot especially if you go for the MSI hence why I am looking at after market coolers.

Anyone any idea how much the 680s are worth with the backplates? Would 300 pounds each be too much do you think?

I don't have much experience as far as GPUs go, but I think the eVGA cards look well received.

Superclocked ACX?
 
Quality of EVGA cards has always been superb in my eyes. Customer support and satisfaction is also high. But one thing you haven't told us is a "guesstimate" of your budget. If money is no object I would choose the EVGA Classified card. Alternatively
the Superclocked card with ACX is good.

As for the 680s. It's hard to say but they sell quite cheap here in Norway. £200 approx. I only paid £310 for mine brand new when I picked them up over a year ago.

Definitely EVGA GTX780Ti Classified. If you live in Europe you have great chance for wonderful cards. Price for Ti Classified drop from 750e to 699e.
Listen only two possibility.
EVGA GTX780Ti Classified 699e
EVGA GTX780Ti K|NGP|N Classified is 765e but you save about 20e on backplate because it's installed on card and little more if you order later because shipping.
That mean difference is about 40e...
Nothing with similar PCB, cooling and look you can't find on market.
And NVIDIA is tricky, like they optimized games with filters exactly for GTX780Ti...
for GTX780 just little performance miss.

Don't get the K|NGP|N unless you want to earn the coverted "More money then sense award". Its an absolute waste of money, unless you like LN2 overclocking. I'd personally say go for either the Gainward one or the KFA/Sparkle ones. Heck, I quite like the Inno3D one, its a beast.
I'd honestly just not bother with EVGA.

Why would you give him the Kingpin as an option? It makes no sense. Kingpin is for benching and overclocking with LN2...

Brand wise I still say go with EVGA. But Classified or Superclocked are better to aim for.
