Maybe in due course but certainly not at the moment, my mind is set on the r520.

And can you please edit out the competitors. Thanks!

Have you seen the reviews of this card? There are about 8 or so, mixed reviews - kinda depends on the game. In farcry at high res with full AA/AF is beats two 6800ultras. Think I'm still going to wait for the ultra though, or ati offering.

sorry bout competitors phil :o forgot lol. Anyway i think cross fire will be better expecially on that dfi board we have seen so many pis off, lots of space for big w/b's so i think i know what im waiting for lol

what is the eta for cross fire?

Phil

Its a mixed bag from the initial reviews I've seen - I'm not going to be getting one anyway, and shall hang on for the r520. I'm an ATI convert.. again.. :)

my current x800 will do me nicely

Surely Phil, a man like yourself can have the best of both worlds :) why not just buy both?

I'm sitting this round out, next gen maybe, then I'll really notice the difference in real world apps instead of just benchies.

lol sit this round out there wont be another round till another year or more mate unless u ment wait it out till ati cards come out

phil

I am split on this.

Having just busted my ass to get in the Hall Of Fame in futuremark and benching like crazy in my current rig I am already looking at all that effort going out the window when a few good men rip these 7800's into the top 10 or higher without breaking a sweat.

Price is too high for me at the moment (he says thinking how to raise the cash LOL) and we are at least 4 driver revisions away from total stability and real performance.

By that time more competition (and even a 32 pipe version) will be out pushing the prices of the current edition down to a less extortionate level.

Either way, it's a logical progression for all f us and will no doubt offer a 'stop-gap' product until 32 pipe Nvidia, R520 and crossfire are released - If you the fastest for now this is it, not for long though me thinks.

It's still likely that there are driver issues with crossfire and production issues with R520, although July is a pretty firm release date (on paper at least).

Yeah I did mean wait for a year, I'm not really into benching (coz i'm crap at it) so as long as my present card can play the my favourite games with decent frames I'm happy.

Not worth it at all.

You can forget it with anything less than a 4000+ as well and 1600x1200.

Yep looks like the old CPU issue os coming into play here - this is when you find your VGA's are being held back by the CPU...... again

But if you got the power and fell that you can make your money bock on ebay or something then why not give it a try?

I am gonna wait and see how Dazboots gets on first, if I dont see a release date for the 32pipe version being not til after xmas, then I might test the water - til then I will look on with jealousy as all my hard eanred top scores dwindle into mediocrity

I know they look good, but at the price I dont really wanna replace my x850xt with one until r520 results are shown...

R520 promises much as does the next 7800 card, both 32 pipes, both console generation (ATI = Xbox and Nintendo Nvidia = PS3).

Problem is both are delayed because of this, of course R520 will have a paper release in July but availabilty will limited at best until after the xmas rush of consoles.

No details on release date for the nvidia product, I think it's pencilled in for an October release at the earliest, although nvidia have stated that they are commited to a full release with stock available on the day of the launch.

It's all a bit too much at the moment, having said that I just ordered 2x7800 GTX's so we will wait and see ;)

Just to add they are already saying that the 7800's are cpu limited with anything less than a 4000+ A64 or a 3.6 P4 - will we really be able to see any further improvements with the 32pipe versions?

I think we will all be purchasing Physics chips before then to help the poor old CPU cope with the job in hand while offloading some intensive calculation to the new physics chip - then we will see the new generation really stretch its legs and perform as it should.

Also, I gotta get me a new monitor that'll do 1600x1200

id of thought that was a no brainer with your hardware.

On the bottleneck subject, i think once we see games like Fear, Stalker, UT2007 the bottleneck of CPU's won't be as much. We need the games to test the cards, it's always been like this with new releases.
