Do you think that the 6970 will run bf3 at max settings or will you need to xfire it with another 6970?

Well because DICE makes some of the if not the most optimized games their is, AND they optimized BF3 for AMD, you should see good FPS with a 6970.

Not at first, but i'm sure after a few driver patches and game patches there wouldn't be much of a difference

That's good to know, because I've seen some games performing better on AMD cards and others better on Nvidia cards.

to an extent. Nvidia will have to make drivers to cope with the fact that it's an AMD based game. Just like AMD has to make drivers to cope with Crysis 2 being Nvidia. But AMD will always have an edge over Nvidia in AMD based game just like Nvidia will always have an advantage in Nvidia based games. What makes AMD so unique is it's Fusion technology for those with AMD CPUs, NB, and GPU.

It's AMD's APU lineup. Right now, it's Llano where Fusion technology is being used.

I have a 6950 and I have never had any issues with any game at full settings, I do not think BF3 will be any different. I think your 6970 will be able to run BF3 at 100% full extreme settings and you should have no issues. Maybe you will not get 200fps but as long as you are getting at least 30, which I think you will, then there is no problems. But I guess it also depends on just how high your Monitor Res will be set to. I still use an old CRT monitor so Im always at 1280 x what ever.

This is only true for FPS and Racing games IMO. Other games is not so important, but you need the fluidity for FPS and Racing games.

Wonder how come they decided to optimize BF3 for AMD seeing as BF2 was so successful and it was optimised for Nvidia

They haven't.I do not know where someone got that idea.
If they had optimised for AMD then why were Nvidia hosting tournaments at both Gamescom AND PAX?
