Hi, Has anyone got one of these cards? I have just found a broken part on mine.

It is located near to the fan plug between numbers 01 -- d13 it has three posts.

the top has popped off so i cant identify it. Can someone please tell me the part no/ Also can anyone help in finding a replacement part?

Many thanks Pete.:(

Looking from the fan side, I have a Q1 (Transistor) and an L13 (Inductor) near the fan connector. Can you point out which component it is from the photo below?

http://upload.overclock3d.net/get.php?id=1069&view=1

The inductor or choke has 220 on it which could be 220mH or 220uH. I have a meter that measures inductance, but I can't use it without taking it out of circuit.

I don't take a lot of notice normally but I guess the fans are PWM'd (pulse-width modulated) and these are the switching components for it. The choke will probably be

there to smooth the current and stop harmonics/noise. If the card works but the fan doesn't, power it separately.

Cheers.

[/IMG]Hi,Thanks for the reply,

I think i have a slightly different card than yours. i have some pics to show the missing part and also the problem i am having with the card.

The fan is working ok its just the graphics are scambled and the card resets windows when i try to play 3D.

Thanks again . Pete.

Might be a daft question but r u sure it's a GT?

I have two that were bought 18 months apart and they are both the same except for the rev on the back.

Both pics you've posted are of the graphics problem :o

Post a pic of the board and I'll have a look.

O.K. can see which bit.

It's immpossible to trace the tracks as it's a 5-6 layer pcb.

That said, the components look the same as mine with a different layout.

I'm looking for a magnifying glass and then I think I can read the part num on the transistor.

The down side is that you'll be lucky if the failure is Q1. They're normally pretty robust and get popped

by something else drawing too much current or stuffing excess current in the base.

Chances are, something else might be dead too.

Something else I thought of; if a regulated supply rail on the card itself was faulty or glitched,

it could have damaged multiple chips, with this one being the only one with physical damage. (where the smoke has escaped) :D

6800gt prob

Hi, Do you think the card is fried?.

Would the broken part cause the graphics to be faulty?

Is it worth me buying a new part?

thanks again Pete.

6800gt

Hi, Been to xfx website and as the card is over two years old and not in the USA there is no warrenty.

Thanks Pete.

Thats odd, my XFX has a double lifetiem warrenty.

TBH its not worth trying to repair cards yourself. I tried with my leadtek 7800GT, but the correct part is nearly impossible to get hold of. and if you do get hold of it then you need and ultra-sonic soldering machine thing to do it properly.

See if you can get in touch with them.

Hi Pete.

Not sure if this will help. Does the fan spin when the PC is running, with the card in?

If not, then that's something to do with the fan controller, which prolly explains why it throws a hissy when running anything 3D.

They're not v.good pics 'cos they were taken with a mobile phone.

Mine's a different card I know (6600GT) but these could be what you're looking at: The tiny 3 legged chip type thing @ top left of the large black square. (This is the reverse side of my card)

The number printed on the component on mine is:

GEKJ7

This is the fan side: The one nearest the 220 coil has GS80X or GS88X printed on it. The one above that has SS = printed on that

Note the 220 coil which is also visible in your shots.

Hope this little bit helps;)
