55nm GT200 Revision A Bit Late

No matter how the clock that it won't beat the HD4870X2 without re-working the chip IMO.

One such example would be the 9800GTX+, the HD4850 is still the better buy.

I dunno, I`d still take a GTX280 over a HD4870X2, the same as I would a HD4870 over the x2.

GX2 compared to HDx2 I`d be more interested in.

Agreed. I'd go for the single GPU cards anyday. I never really got the whole multi GPU thing...

That's like saying you never got the whole multi CPU thing.... Faster processing.

It's pointless, if they don't work together properly.

The drivers were always problematic, it's only in the last year or so they've got more stable. But still 2 GPUs IMO should indicate x2 of the performance of a single - It doesn't but it's still twice the price...

The latest X2s cores appears to work pretty well with each other. Before getting 2 x the performance can even be close the cards would need to be able to share their memory and even then it still wouldn't be twice the performance. X2 is a lil less than twice the price.

We hear this tho, then something like Grid comes out (relation to title thread on oc3d that I haven`t read as it doesn`t wholey interest me, so I could be way off) and it`s performance is lacking ?

But it spanks a 9800 @ Crysis or UT3 or 3dmark or whatever..

See I saw that thread too and was a lil confuzzled by it.

Every review I've seen has shown pretty immense GRID performance including the OC3D review.

I even asked Jim what it was actually like using the card. A review is all well and good but I wanted to know the general feel of the thing. If there were any glitches and stuff like that. He said it was really really good. I think his exact words were that he'd "give his left testicle to keep the card" (maybe right??).

Don't get me wrong.. I'm all for single core solutions and if the 280 was a little closer I'd probably plump for it due to just being easier and more stable but fact is it gets mullered. My plan was to wait for the GT200b and see how it does, but now it would mean waiting even longer.

Yeah, thats basically what i did when i was looking for gpu's when the GX2 was at the top. I thought i'd wait for the 280....which i did and now the new revision is coming out. Not too bothered anyway. This is my 1st built rig so it was gonna be expensive anyway. Dont see the point in waiting about for new cards. There's always another on the doorstep which will be 'better'. I'm quite happy with the 280. It romps anything thrown at it. Who gives a monkeys about what comes out next, its not going to make a huge difference. May as well just get it done with and upgrade when the games are struggling......

I do agree with everyone that nVidia needs to pull their thumb out, get with the programme and make some proper cards instead of re-hashing existing stuff. I get the impression they're stuck for ideas and running about like headless chickens watching ATi make a very impressive comeback.....They should just call a time out, get something decent done and put it out when its done instead of all this screwing about.....

Well with 2 and 4 cores on the same die you dont get 2 or 4 times the performance from your CPU. With going from single to dual channel you dont get 2x the memory bandwidth or performance. See where im going? Adding a second fo this or that in the PC world is only theoretical double performance. The fact of the matter is though, that even though its not "2x" the performance it still spanks the 280. With that being said though, id still take a single GPU becuase im tired of multiple gpu solutions myself.

You're dead right. ;)

I think it all just falls back on the fact that software needs to catch up.

Its only 1/4 of a software problem. The main reason we dont see double the performance is because chips like the PCI-E controler found between the 2 GPUs lag it out. Or its lagged out by CPU performance ect. So many differnt things come into play and really if there was perfect communication between everything there would be 2x the performance. If there wasnt, THEN its the softwares fault.
