5004.2Mhz on A8 6600k

Just a quick question really, just put a little media center system together and thought i'd try seeing what it's capable of.

So far i have got it to 5004.2Mhz on stock cooling through MSI Commander and just wondering how i can raise the bar to get 3rd place on HWBOT for the 6600k here.

System Specs are:

500Watt PSU
MSI A88X G43 Motherboard
A8 6600K (Black Edition) 3.9Ghz Stock
AMD HD6670 2Gb Graphics in dual mode with the APU.
2x4Gb Kingston Hyper-X Predator (2133Mhz) Memory

My CPU-Z is below, and as you can see the temp is raising above 70, and causing the system to restart as soon as i hIt anything higher than what i've posted.

Would a decent after market cooler achieve the 3rd place with the components i have or will water cooling achieve greater yield?

A good aftermarket cooler will improve temps with a large margin, but it also depends how lucky you got in silicon lottery.

What brand and model is the power supply?
You have to increase the vcore but be careful
I got my old a6 6400k (dual core) up to 5.3ghz and it would not go higher because I had a crappy motherboard, but yours is much better

Also as killobravo said chip lottery is a big factor i f it is going to over clock well or not

Those results are very impressive for stock volts, looks like you have won the chip lottery, but you need a better cooler

It's only an ezcool generic 775 modelpower supply hence why i didn't want to up the vcore, i plan on upgrading this to a corsair gs700 soon.

Regarding air coolers, can anyone recommend a nice low profile one that will give good room for overclocking as this will ultimately be in an htpc case which i have yet to decide on.

I was originally going to get the nzxt h440 case to drown out fan noise after watching your review but because it's in the living room you know how fussy women can be! I'll just have to put ones foot down and go for the bigger cooler and case.

Cases dont drown out fan noise mate, even with a case like that you have to set them up properly.....

lol, anything has to be better than what i have now, take a look at my hwbot from OP, Asus Vento.

Managed to squeeze a bit more juice out of the system today which got me up to 5084.8Mhz

So good cpu cooler for less than £40?
