haha just wanted to say that this is going to be very very close as there are 3 of us on the way to 5 million, and it seems that the 5million goal is about a week or less apart

good luck to yassarikhan786 and nothingspecial, (i you guys have a very good chance of destroying me cuz of games and school work that might slow my folding down

)

And of course to the rest watching have fun,

now need to go find more stuff to fold on

Good luck to you and nothingspecial, will be fun to watch. My PPD slows down over the weekends because of gaming and I'm taking a week off work in a week so PPD will slow down that week :/.

Looking forward to this one. Toying with the idea of putting the old 5770 back in my main rig so I can stick the 560Ti in the spare rig and fold that too.

Also, just updated to FAHControl 7.1.50 and my estimated PPD has shot up to 51k

- should help a bit.

Might even crack the PS3 out

haha i'm in the lead, but everyone else seems to be increasing their ppd, they're gonna leave me in the dust, need to see if i can get some friend's hardware to fold on

This folding malarky. How does it work. Can you fold in the background and still use the computer for other things and still get reasonable performance

Yep you can. I'm using GPU Tracker to fold and there is an option in the configuration menu which allows you to specify how many cores you want to fold with. I'm using all of the cores on my CPU and there is no visible slow down when I'm only folding with just the CPU. The GPU folding is what affects performance as everything feels "laggy" when I'm running the GPU client, either on its own or with the CPU.

this folding malarkey, is helping advance science, specifically it aids in research for specific illnesses

"Protein folding is linked to disease, such as Alzheimer's, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers "

now as for performance it really depends, as yassarikhan said, gpu folding if much more 'visibly' laggy, but then again i would try to play games while folding, but you choose to just fold at night or when your at work/school. Personally i fold with both the cpu and the gpu almost 24/7 and i still manage to watch youtube and do my homework on it just fine (pro tip: use google chrome when folding because firefox is slow as hell when your folding)

I knew what folding was. I knew what it was for and my friend has cancer so im well aware I also had a ps3 with the f@h client but i didnt know how it worked in relation to it affected the use of the computer as i have 2 bros that play silkroad just shy of non stop so now that i know you can do both at once i guess i shall join team redline. Now my 3930k isnt oced as the mobo is a piece of crap (busted rive rmaing)

All flash content (Youtube, iPlayer, etc) is laggy as hell for me, so I just watch everything on my Galaxy S2

On a side note, was everybody else thrown by the EoC stats time changing?

Clocks have gone forward in US, so updates are an hour later than usual. Will change back when ours change (weekend after next?)

Edit: or is it earlier? I'm all confused... Either way, it's an hour off what it usually is.

Edit: It's earlier. Next update at 2000hrs.

GPU Acceleration is not enabled (on Chrome) and it's still laggy as hell. Even regular browsing is laggy.

Really, what OS you on? I'm using Win7 64-bit with the hardware in my sig and the only things that are slow while folding on my CPU and GPUs are gaming and iTunes. iTunes is dreadfully slow when my GPUs are folding.
