I think this is not for the general public regardless of whether they attempt to mass produce it. Would seem to be a good replacement for Xeons though for servers and supercomputers.

I think with the way the OS and programs are coded for us home users, 48 cores would be totally useless. I guess there's a good application for them in servers but not a lot else. I definitely expect to see a massive change in CPU architecture before we have ones with loads of cores in our PCs. Perhaps they will work in a similar way though.
It was a sad day for world tech when the pump of mhz the Intel way took over mainstream computing. PPC was definitely a favorite of mine, following the 68k series.
