Is the 4790k still worth it ? I need a new cpu but I don't want to cough up the money buy and new x99 board ,chip and ddr4 memory

So wondering if the 4790k is they next best option ??

the 4790k is a great chip, but with Skylake only a month or so away it might be better to wait and see if it is much better.

What are you running right now? and can it wait until then?

I'm using a amd Richland Apu, yea I'd probably be best waiting just trying to way up my best options ?

If it still works fine I'd wait mate, that way you could get either a better price for a 4770K or 4790K or go for Skylake.

If you really want to upgrade now the 4790K is a great CPU, and Intel have gained a reputation for not giving us a really big increase in CPU grunt going up a single generation.

Yea I'm tempted to buy it now as I'm on holiday for a few weeks so have plenty time fit it and have some fun

But I know I would be annoyed if it's drops price after the new launch or if a better option comes up

If skylake is only a month or so away it is probably best to wait and see how it goes.

This also gives the OP the option of picking up a secondhand 4790k CPU/mobo cheaply.

IIRC Skylake will be able to use both DDR3 and DDR4 which is nice as the latter is vastly over rated for gaming and can be a pain in the butt.

If the leaks are true, Which they usually are, The IPC of Skylake is only around 5% better than Haswell so as you say he'll be able to get a nicely priced 4790K as there will be the usual annual CPU upgraders selling their stuff ^_^
