$400 or less upgrade from 6950 (eek!)

Hey, all! Sorry in advance if this topic has already been covered, but am quite a bit confused with all the choices and have been out of the loop for a while.

Looking to move my 6950 to a different slot to power an extra monitor for some extended-desktop goodness, and am searching for a good option (air-cooled) for some gaming goodness. Unless it would be a problem using a competitor's brand, I am not wedded to AMD and willing to stray.

Budget would be $400 or less.

You could grab an R9 290 for ~$400. It does run quite hot though.

Why keep the 6950? Could use multiple displays on the new card or the integrated (like I do). For that kinda money I would pick up a r9 290 but maybe wait until the custom cooled ones are released. If you got rid of the 6950 you could go with a 770 maybe (about 350-390 after a quick look on newegg).
