3dmark2001 CPU limited

Just to let you guys know I have been putting my volt modded cards through their paces.

I have come to the conclusion that this benchmark, for me, is CPU limited beaten in orb only by guys that have higher CPU clocks than me.

I think I got me an FX55 WR (or at least a WR at 3511Mhz clock speed) but it would appear that is the limit now of the CPU - I need a cascade system now to kick some butt and get those clocks higher (at least 3.6ghz is required).

Even if you have a set of volt modded 7800GTX's that do 600/1500 it seems that if your cpu wont go higher than it did before, you will no longer benefit in this benchmark

So time to focus on 03 and 05 for now -then some overdue customPC benchies for good measure .

Wont the physics chips keep the overall playing field the same in terms of leaderboard, but with higher scores? Mind the other world leaders will have access to it as well

Are you sure its not just the cards no linear performance?

As you can see from the graph, as clock speed increase so to does the size of the flat spot in performance .

So as you have got 600MHz you might not have any performance gain over your cards without the volt-mod, as you on the same flat spot.

Seems liek a logical example but I am not too sure - just by looking at other scores it seems as though only those that beat me have higher CPU clocks - I have similar VGA core clock to those in front of me.

Also - found out that 2d has to scale up with 3d to see some better improvements (especially in 01) - I ran 2d at 555 and 3d at 600mhz to achieve my 47499 in 3dm01.

Thats where the reviews fail in that respect - the 2d in most (all fo them AFAIK) is set to 1.2v which limits 2d clocks to around 400, but to get a true appreciation of how fast these cards go the 2d and 3d have to be fully overclocked - and to get ethe best out of the benchmarks u really need to mod the BIOS to give the 2d and throttled 3d 1.4v.

Well DUH!!

Yes I have just realised - but on a single VGA (whilst waiting for my other mod to be completed) I was able to run at 3d 600/1400 2d was set to stock and I beat all of your scores mate, so if your scores were done maxxing overclocks on both 2d and 3d then u need to work harder on your set-up.

21k in 03, 10k in 05 and 38k in 01 and that was without breaking a sweat.

Thing is now Nick25 knows I am sure he will beat all your scores too - which kinda puts things in perspective when u make comments like that.

Unless of course you're commenting on how impressive my scores were before I did it and now that they are stellar you are even more in awe at both achievements

Yes but that's not to say a good graphics card won't improve your score in it. That's why 7800s get better scores than 6800s.

Firstly - I dont have an FX57 I have an FX55, and the scores I quoted here for your appraisal are single cards.

2ndly - you need to add quotes to what you are actually replying to and I dont think you fully understood what I was saying - to clarify, I am saying now with 7800's in sli the CPU is holding them back (for the first time ever), and in this test you are unlikely to release the full potential of the cards due to the CPU limitations, but by increasing the 2d clock speed you can still squeeze out a few more points.

3rdly - I think you have been warned on more than one occasion about the language you choose to use and in fact the manner in which you express yourself - personally I find you aggressive at worst, misunderstood at best.

I dont want to see anyone here banned as it's bad karma in my view - but you must learn to help yourself by perhaps thinking about what you are going to say and how it effects others before you post.

This is not a site to flame or argue - just a discussion and a friendly chit chat with help and advice provided and required by many as well as just chewing the fat about day to day things.

IMHO, I dont think we will see much more (if any) scores improved by employing new graphics cards now, not until something else (physics chip) is released to ease the burden on the cpu or dual core optimisations are released spread teh load over two cpu's (or cores).
