3700X and B550

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone may perhaps know if a 3700X is just drop and play in a B550 board? Or does it require a BIOS update in order to work, like the 5000 series requires a BIOS update on B550 and X570?

I haven't been able to find a solid answer to this, only that they are compatible.

Thanks,
Dawelio

AMD Ryzen 7 3700x supported the following chipset X570, B550, A520, X470, and B450. For X470 and B450 chipset, you need to update BIOS. In this guide, I have only picked X570 and B550 chipset based motherboard. If you are low in budget then you can pick B450 or X470 chipset based motherboard.

Going by this only x470 b450 need the bios update.

The chipset released after the CPU, so it should work. The 500 series of chipsets are made for the 3000 series of processors.

Just be sure to not install a UEFI which removes support for older chips. It probably isn't a concern yet, but further down the line they might need to drop support for older SKUs in order to support newer ones.

Though it might be that 500 series boards have larger storage to alleviate that.
