Which would be better for gaming a 3570s (4570s) or 3770t (4770t) as a friend of mine has been asking me this question on and off for two weeks now, as he does not want to overclock the cpu however he does want to have a very energy efficient rig that can also play battle field 3/4, sleeping dogs, planetside 2 and so on, so can the T do this as well as the S or should he just go for the S and forget about the hyper threading as it’s only battle field 3/4 and one or two other games that would use it
Many thanks in advance

just tell him to get a 3470. leave those s cpu`s couse it will be very eficient already.an i5 in games is not fully loaded

The 3470s has a higher TDP (65Watt where the 3770t has 45), but in return you get higher clocks (2.9GHz vs 2.5). It also has the HD 2500 graphics where the 3770t has HD 4000, but that doesn't matter as I'm assuming that your friend will be using a dedicated graphics card.

For most games out there today, an i5 will be more than enough. but if he insists on future proofing, the i7 might be worth it as the next-gen consoles will have 8 CPU cores and the i7 has hyperthreading.

I'd personally save myself some money and grab the i5 though.

Edit; Regular 3470 has 77 Watt TDP

There is no such thing as an energy efficient rig that can kick ass in games. That's like wanting a Ferrari to save on petrol.

Right now the best value gaming CPU isn't even an Intel, it's the AMD 8320. £120 gets you a CPU that's pretty much dead level with a 3570k and in some cases faster than a 3770.

It's not very energy efficient but if you gamed for three hours a day it would cost you $20 more to run per year (or about £13) than a I5.
