I can easily overclock the CPU to 4.2 GHz, 42x multiplier, 1.125V, 100mhz base clock. no problem. but as soon as i want to push to 4.4 ghz it won't even let me in the bios and i have to clear cmos. 40x multiplier, 110mhz base clock, 1.125V, clear cmos. 42x multiplier, 105mhz base clock, 1.125V, clear cmos. 44x multiplier, 100mhz base clock, 1.125V, clear cmos! it even runs prime95 fine at 4.2ghz. neither OC genie or standard mode helps me out there.
rig:
3570k
msi z77a-g45
corsair vengeance 1600mhz 8GB
corsair ax750
msi hd7870 hawk

Its simple, you need more volts, I would say put it to 1.3 and then if its fine then go down from there and see how low you can go

It is really strange the voltage increase doesn't work, it should :p.
Heat doesn't seem to be an issue, so I suggest trying PapaSmurf's suggestion.
EDIT: The problem MIGHT be the motherboard, it's one of the cheaper MSI motherboards, so OC'ing wouldn't be as good as on let's say a Z77A-GD55.

the rig already left my house, it's at 4.2GHz and survived hours of prime95. the one i built it for doesn't really do CPU intense stuff, so it doesn't really matter. i'm waiting for him to send me the benchmarks, then i will open a thread showcasing the rig. :)
