24inch - 1920x1200 - Need AA?

The R600 cards perform great when not using AA, and 1gb will sure help on DX10 at high res.

I was wondering, if anyone who had a 24inch screen could comment on if they need to use AA at that high res or not?

If so, does anyone know any 3rd party apps that let you force a certain type of AA, id be looking at MSAA, since it takes almost 0 performance and gets rid of only the really bad edges. I think rivatuner can do it for ATI cards can anyone conform that please.

Thanks.

You can enable MSAA in ATi Catalyst Control Center if I recall correctly. You probably can in RivaTuner as well but I'm not sure. As far as performance drop goes, I don't notice TOO bad of a hit @ 1680x1050. All depends on the engine. Just remember that with each driver release ATi seems to be improving on AA performance.

As far as needing AA goes, it depends on the game to be honest. Some games don't need it @ resolutions greater than 1680x1050 or equiv, others look horrid.

CCC jsut has 2x aa.. 4xaa.. 6xaa.. etc.

Which is kinda stupid it could be anything. Can enable multisampling filter AA or something but thats different.

I think im not guna go with that setup now anyway, no decent aftermarket coolers for the 2900, and 8800gt looks to be a winner. Ill just get a 20inch screen at 1680x1050 and run it on 8800gt with 4x MSAA constantly forced.

Its the ONLY aftermarket cooler lol, and its too big. WAY too big. Id want dual slot cooling with a fan on that thing takes up 3.

Depends on the game, but even with 2x you can still notice an improvement in visual quality.

It also depends what monitor you have. Some have better scalers than others. Lower resolutions might look fine on some monitors, and with AA will give a better picture than full 1920x1280 without AA.

I find I need it less and less with newer games however I would still want 2xAA on most games running at 1900x1200.

I don't even consider playing games on my 24"..

Having said that, CoD4 and UT3 still look damn good on my X1800.

I think on a CRT you could get away without AA but on a TFT i still see sooooo many jagges.

2x is more than enough to cover it though

Same, AA rocks for most games. Luckily it doesn't take too much performance these days anyway. Theres usually some setting of AA whether it be custom filter multi sampling or super sampling that'll get me a sweet point of IQ/performance anyway.

Can say that since getting a 24inch I find it hard to go back to a normal sized screen lol. Can fit so much more on here :D
