2 gigs and WoW

I just got another gig of ocz 3200 2x512 2-2-2-5. So now I have 4x512 sticks of the same ram. After I added the 2 sticks my WoW kept freezing (hard lock) 5 to 10 mins into playing it. I changed my timings to 2.5-3-2-8 and I thought it was fixed but now it freezes 45mins to an hour in. Im wondering what else I can do? Should I raise the voltage to 2.8 and see what happends? Is it safe to do that? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Justin

I can't help you with your problem, you'll have to wait until an AMD guru like XMS or Fragtek comes along. But it's defininetly safe to try 2.8v.. Give it a go anyway I suppose :)

run memtest on your ram to see if it is stable and causing the problem. also run prime95 and 16m super pi to test stability.

all these programs mentioned are available from our download area, acesible from the right of the homepage.

Memtest is gonna take like 12 hours to finish right? And the RAM I was using before never made WoW crash when it was by itself.

Memtest doesn't take that long to finish. Use tests 5 and 8 and run 3-5 loops of each.

Try setting the voltage at 2.8 and see how you go.

What exact RAM do you have?

I can see its PC3200, butwhat kind of 3200?

Try testing the new RAM on its own if you get memtest errors :)

do memtest for the memory - if it's allright then its not your ram

do prime 95 for cpu - if it crashes here its your cpu

do a vpu stress test like 3dmark 03 - if this crashes its your gfx card

if all of these dont crash its most likely a problem to do with your motherboard

I'd bump up the voltage to 2.8v, see if that helps, if not try running some other games and see if they crash.

If other games crash, do a couple of hours of memtest to see if it brings up any problems.

It could be a problem with your new memory or even a problem with the memory slots on your motherboard.

Rgr that. I don't see how its only doing it in WoW and BF2, CS:S, and SWG are fine. Its weird but I know it has something to do with the memory because I had more time before it froze after I relaxed the timings and raised the voltage.

BTW: You guys are awesome. Thank you for the quick responses.

could be an issue of just re-formating then?

Not sure. Im about to go try 2.8v. Just trying to work up the...guts I guess to do it. I hate messing with things in the bios.

OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory

That's exactly what I have in my system (but 1gb of it).

You're safe to go up to 2.9v but you should not need any more than that.

Run memtest as stated above to see if you have error

Oh and OCZ plat is rated up to 2.85v, so no warranties will be vioided at 2,8v.

And WoW and BF2 are more memory intensive than CSS etc, but best to raise volts and try again :)

If relaxing timing had a positive impact on the stability, then i'd say it has something to do with your ram or possibly motherboard.

Give the voltage increase a go and let us know.

The fact that CSS and SWG work fine may just be down to them not utilising the extra memory you have in there (as a guess).

It might be that with all four RAM slots filled the board isn't getting enough volts to the memory and they are being undervolted. Should be fine at eithere 2.8-9v :D

Exactly what I think is happening. I just couldn't put it into words as you did. Gonna go change the voltage now and give WoW a go for 2 hours if it doesn't crash.

if that could be the case take all but one 512 module out
