£1700 Budget what do you think?

What's the rig used for?

You may be better off with the 670 instead of the 680. Next to the same performance, but a fair bit cheaper.

Also, the MSI GD65 or MSI mPower are possibly better choices for a motherboard.

The PSU is also overkill for that system.

Lastly - avoid OCZ like the plague! It'll only break. Get a crucial M4 or Samsung 830 instead

I have the MSI MPower excellent board and scan is one of the few places to stock it in the UK, plus I love it's killer all black pcb styling.

The OC button on the motherboard overclocked my 3570K to 4.2 easy with the H100i cooling it & I bet I could manually overclock it further.

Samsung 830 is also a solid choice and that's what I went with.

Also what will you be using your rig for, so people can give you more specific advise.

TBH I wouldn't really bother with an Nvidia GFX card at the moment, I just can't seem to justify the price for them in the high end market. The 7970Ghz edition is the fastest card around at the moment on average, and with the new 12.11 drivers, the card is even faster still, even in games like BF3 where Nvidia were once king.

The 7950 is the best card for the money and you could pick up a couple in crossfire for around £400, that will land you with some pretty incredible performance and it can be overclocked to a high level too which will give you a great boost over stock speeds.

If you only want to go with a single card then I would stick with a good 7970 like the gigabyte one. It's cool, quiet and has a lot of overclocking potential so it can be a stupidly fast card in the right hands, that's not to say it is a slouch at stock speeds by any means :P

Edit : Also forgot to add that you now get 3 free games and 20% of another with all 7900 series cards now, that is incredible value for money, you are getting over £100 worth of free kit with the GFX card!!
It's not like they are no name games either, they are chat topping games like Far Cry 3 and Hitman!

Welcome to the forums

Looks like youll be enjoying your setup. Lets hope the OCZ drive lives long enough for me to be correct. That was the only thing I saw that caused me some concern. Let us hope for the best mate. How about some pics of the rig when you get her done?

I mainly game but I look at it like this I bought my original PC for about £700 and ive spent about £300 - £400 on it over 7 years and it has served me well and I hope my new rig stand strong.

As for the GPU I think I will take ObscureParadox's advice and get an AMD 7000 series card.

Any particular reason I should go with the MSI mPower?

The PSU yea it is overkill and the 650w I have now would do fine but im hoping I will not have to upgrade my PSU in a while.

Lastly thanks for the OCZ tip

I have always been a fan of ATI/AMD cards I don't really know why I chose the gtx 680 but thanks man.

Cheers mate.

So Ive done some chopping and changing I have gone for the single 7970 so it gives me the option to maybe xfire.

As you can probably see I'm looking to push/pull the h100 does anyone know what screws I would need or would it be best for me to just take them to a local hardware store see what they have.

Do you really need 32GB of ram?? Just wandering as I think it might be better for you to half the amount and then get a faster set. You'll see more benefit from a higher speed kit over a higher capacity kit!

Something like this would be cheaper and much faster! http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Comp...el+Kit+[F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH]+?productId=53331

Even a couple of these would be around the same sort of price http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Comp...annel+Kit+[F3-2400C10D-8GTX]+?productId=53327

Yea 32gb is a lot mental unless you are RAMdisking or doing serious photoshop editing. You'll only need 8gb 1600/1866 RAM for gaming.

Equally the 3570K is a significantly cheaper option that provides the same gaming performance.

Liking everything else.

Yea I know it's all probably OTT for what I need it for but it's what I want :P

ahhhhhh not an ocz. have your invoice/receipt handy.

Yea I've removed it from my cart haha
