Hello.

I have a Asus 120hz 3d monitor. I cant seem to get it to display 120hz. Ive tried 2 different dvi-d dual link cables still no joy. Mind you the second cable i tried cost £1.99 off ebay :S lol

I also tried a different graphics card, all the dvi port, fresh i stall of windows. New drivers, updates ect.

Is there any way i can test my dvi-d cables?

Oh and when i select 120hz its gets all fuzzy. On the catalyst centre it says reported refresh rate 120hz but is actually set to 60hz.

Asus VG236
Graphics card: 7950.
Windows 8 Pro.

Have you switched the card's bios switch to Dual Link DVI position?

Yea , you did put the cable in the correct port but the switch changes from Single Link DVI to Dual Link DVI which you need for 120hz or 2560 res.

How do you know it's set to 60hz?

Because when you switch to 120hz you get a blurry image the only problem I can think of is the dvi cable. Can you check the ends and make sure it's a dual dvi and not a single dvi?

Not sure if it's faulty or not but did a bit of googling and try the following:

  • On nvidia cards there is an option to set a custom resolution, so I'm assuming radeon cards do too? if so try setting to 1920x1080 120hz
  • while set at 120hz start up a game and see if its still blurry

Dude thanks a lot for taking the time to do some research to help me out:)

I think I may have found the problem. I got a multimeter and tested the connections ends on the dvi cable and some of the pins are not connected. The single pin is also not connected.

Should we say it's defp the cable?

I can defp confirm its a dual link dvi d with a set of pins on one side and a single pin on the other side :)
Just trying to make sure :)

Although I know very little about multimeters, I'm assuming for dual link all pins need to be connected.
The dvi cable that came with the monitor is supposed to be dual link so check that too.

Try one last thing, set 120hz and start up a game and see what happens. I read some people mentioning that 120hz would make the desktop blurry, but games would run just fine so they increased slightly 2d clocks for it to work in desktop.

Ive actually tried that before with no luck.

Using the multi meter to test the connections is simple and there seems to be a few connections not working. Strange as this is now my 2nd faulty cable. Time to buy a decent branded one!

Try using the link I posted in my previous post first, maybe you'll have more success with this.

did the custom resolution still no luck. Selected 120hz at 1080p and restarted even a few times.

Got to be the cable right?

Does dvi-dual link use all the connections?

I have this monitor as well, It becomes finicky when other display devices are connected. Make sure it is your only display and install the Monitor drivers off Asus website. Uninstall generic windows driver and install Asus latest driver. Also try using different inputs on the video card. This monitor requires DVI only not DVI-D.

Ive been on the Asus website, there are no drivers i can find.

Could you send me a link to the page?

Also im using win8 i havent seen any drivers just utilities.

And do you mean i should only use the DVI connection and not the DVI-D input behind graphics card?

If Windows 8 requires Microsoft certification for monitor, double click to install.

Can't paste a direct link, It's under utilities, I would use the DVI connection I don't see the point in using DVI-D for a DVI connection.

I've used this monitor only on my GTX 780. Try reinstalling drivers as we'll I have had weird GPU Driver issues with this monitor, a clean installation of the latest Catalyst drivers may do the trick for you. FYI changing the cable between different ports may cause a reset. Meaning you will have to go through the process all over again whatever your process may end up being... That driver signature did the trick for me hope you have the same luck ;)

Also I think I actually used the signature that was on the CD that came with the monitor??? Cannot recall exactly but try both.
