120 mm window fan

Hi all,

I finally got all my bits from Custom PCs (prizes) but I decided to add a more powerful GFX, X850XT PE :D This card runs so hot that at load you cant even keep your finger on the backplate for a couple of seconds without suffering some serrious pain. ATI tool registers a core temp of 90 c at load. So I got to work...

I added a stack of cooler master heatsinks on the back plate and...

..120 mm fan in the window, thanks Cashman for the info on hole cutters.

The core sits happy at 70 c loaded now and the back plate is just warm. Main system specs;

P4 3.4 @ 4.01 Ghz on air (Asus ice star cooler) prime stable.

1 Gb DDR2 Corsair PC5400 C4PRO

X850XT PE @ stock so far

250 Gb Maxtor Sata

Zax that fan has done the biz! The Asus Star Ice is brill I've got the blue one as well. I wont bother taking a piccie cos yrs is so good!

:) Looks good Zax :)

Ddi you get a holesaw in the end then mate? Also, what clocks have you had from that X850XTPE? I ordered mine yesterday and cannot wait to see how it runs :)

I bought a 121 mm hole cutter for £12 plus a few quid more for the holder thingy. I didn't see your post on the size of the cutters until I'd already bought mine. Why did you cut the hole so small for a 120 mm fan?

I havent really tried to overclock the card yet, I've been busy trying to get the CPU stable at 4 Ghz on air.

Oh yeah, dont forget to order the power adapter for your X850XT PE if your PSU doesnt have a 6 pin PCI-E GFX power plug.

Nice one Zax, I just ordered the adapter thingy :)

Phil told me 114mm was the size... I guessed he's done it a few times and followed him :)

where are you guys getting your holesaws from? all the ones iv found are stupidly expensive...so all the holes in my case have been jigsawed or chain drilled, then hand sanded to perfection ;) Its time to make my life easier..

Well the CPU is a P4 550 which at stock runs at 3.4 Ghz so an extra 600 Mhz on air is possible and I did do it using the Asus Ice star cooler. Well the whole system's on water now at 4.2 Ghz.

tis possible indeed, i have a 550 at 4032, couldnt get even 3800 with stock multi of 17, but using aa8xe fatal1ty, put multi to 14 and 288mhz fsb, makes for effective ram speed of 720mhz.

that is on this cooler, water is coming

Zax mate how many rigs do you have? Love the case.

Cheers Nick. Well lets see now, firstly theres my Mach 2 rig in the sig, thats my test rig. Then theres this water cooled rig, thats for my work (and few breaks now and again, thats why the X850XT PE is in it :D ). Then theres my downloading rig, a P4 2.5 Ghz with a 9700 PRO. Lastly theres my Thinkpad for when I'm at work. So thats a total of four computers that I can justify to my conscious.

How many you got Nick?

The one in my sig, then a 3.6ghz pressie in a shuttle with a geforce4, 1gb ram, 20" tft etc then my ultra postable lappy. So three.

Oh I think there is one in the loft...
