..That doesn't mean they're killing off XP.

find me a shread of evidence that they're gonna suport xp for aslong as they're gonna suport vista, and i'll believe you.

Whats vista got to do with it. It's an complete different product. Just because ones planned lifespan is less than an other, doesnt always mean its near its end of life.

Xp will be around long after Vista is kicked into touch in favor of Windows2010.

Easy way to notice when m$ could give a damn about a flavor of OS is when they drop Dx support for it.

Win98 Dx support went on for what seemed like an age. Longer than it took them to empty the shelves of ME.

I`m still banking on them Dx10`in XP, it`d be crazy not to.

urgh it better hurry up >.<

vista was nice at first...now its starting to pisch me off!!

Its already off my laptop - i dont want to be laughed at in college xD

My main pc still has it but it still seems a beta product no matter how nice it looks - ive had to do a lot of messing to stop it using 1gb of pf useage just through normal useage...i managed to use 2gb the other day :/

At least im on 500mb abouts now...my server 2003 is on 86mb :|

I like vista too...it just uses too much resources as standard and companies such as creative dont really help with crap drivers

What really should get u twisted is that if u personally owned Creative, had access to all their hardware (old and new), and had the dev stuff for Vista (which is very available), u could rejig a simple XP driver set in less than a days work.

U only need to tinker the driverset coz u`ve already got utilities to run off them.

Same ole Creative tho. Must have outstanding coffee breaks.

That aside, I personally feel Vista has been an excercise in selling shiny things to people. Like selling a car with outstanding bodywork, but the engine`s from a sinclair C5. If sales of Vista prove to be worthwhile by the end of 2k8, the next issue of windows will be more of the same - botched NT with some graphical effect to make ya`ll go "oooooo" and spend $300. I see very little in it`s historical relevance outside of pulling in funds, it should hopefully be looked back upon for the poor advance in tech it really is. If there were simply a fist full of things that made it a better performer than it`s predecessor, it`d be right there promoting it.

I think you'll find MS are going to start going more the Apple way of things and releasing smaller more frequent updates on their OS for less...as upgrades

That`d be interesting.

What I`d`ve loved to see them do, for that case in point, is to start afresh. Clear away the cobwebs of passed OS` like 8.3 filesystem, it`s never been necessary to have the .3 to identify a file outside of msdos v2.xx, integrate a very efficient IPv8 (or whatever they choose to call it), rehash the registry theory (or do away with it), empower the user instead of running lots of little things in the background (particularly with sinister sounding names), change the driver system (make it more of an open integration than a set in steel obnoxious process to install stuff at times), keep/allow all the damn files associated with an app inside the apps` folder (a follow on from registry stuff and stoopid system32 folder), use a cpu core management that launches something based on which core is doing sod-all at the time (and not dependant on the number of cores available at the time of coding for future expansion into 16 core systems etc) - simply doing that with Dx atm would be astonishing in terms of game performance alone....

Argh shuddup, stop - talk about waffling to get things off u`r chest!

i think there are certainly alot of things microsoft can do better. I think its gonna be brillaint when all OS's can utilise more than one core effiently.

god im knackered

Trouble is nat, I`ve got a really bad gut feeling that they could release whatever incarnation Win2010 turns out to be called, and it would inherently be Vista with some graphical effects, and a de-emphasis of blackness.

And the crazy thing is people may buy it regardless.
