Intel Conroe-L Single Core Details

Intel will be attacking the value market hard with the new Conroe-L chip Q2~Q3 2007.

The Conroe-L is single core and will come in two flavours, 440 @ 2.00GHz, 512KB L2 cache for $59 and the 430 @ 1.8GHz, 512KB L2 cache for $49.

The focus today is on the Celeron 440.

With a lower clock speed it is of no real suprise the 440 consumes less power and dissipates less heat than its older Celeron D counterpart.

How does this lower clock speed affect performance? Lets take a look.

The 440 favours PC Mark 05, Super Pi and Sandra 2 but is beaten by AMD's 3500+ in Science Mark 2, Cinbench 95 and 3d Mark 05.

The trend in 3D software continues with AMD generally performing better.

Below is a comparison against the Celeron 440 2.0GHz, Celeron 400 2.66GHz and the Celeron 400 3.0GHz.

Do you think there is a space in the market for this low cost chip?
