EDGE Unveils their GX1 Ergonomic Gaming Chair

Just stop with leather, and artificial leather. Cloth is the way to go with chairs of any kind.

So it's the same as a Humanscale Freedom Headrest pretty much. They have literally just copied that chair, which you can get pretty cheap on Ebay etc like new as a refurb.

It's nice, but not £800 nice. You could pick up an Embody for about £500ish.

What I hate most about "gaming chairs" is they are so expensive. I'm slightly above average in height and for some reason they think it's a great idea to charge over $300 for a chair that fits my height.. why? I can get nice office chairs that will do the same thing for less

That is just wrong. Have you ever sit in a gaming chair, like a Maxnomic or DXRacer? I have owned 3 of them by now and they cost from 250-350EUR and every penny is worth it, considering they are much MORE comfortable and much MORE adjustable than the 500-600EUR office chairs we have at work...

£800 is way, waaaay too much for any chair. It should be able do do some *indecent* services for that kind of money...

I have. I also have a $80 office chair that is pretty darn close in comfort so have your opinion doesn't mean I'm wrong

Well, nice to see one sensible gaming chair manufacturer. The rally seat imitations are just sad.

That seat is listed as their flagship model on the website, there will probably be more reasonably priced options.

Listen, good chairs are not cheap. That is just a sad fact of life.

I weigh around 17 stones at present, and I can tell you I have gone through cheap chairs like crap through a goose. I am talking about 9 in 10 years. I finally stopped wasting money on the things that didn't matter and started concerning myself with the things that do a good few years ago now. In that time I have owned a Herman Miller Sayl (which I outgrew) and then the Humanscale Freedom Headrest I have now. The Freedom cost me £240 completely recovered like new. It is a £1200 chair, and it feels like one. Every time I place my fat ass on it the foam still feels the same way it did when I sat on it when it arrived.

Those bucket seats may be comfy at first but they are not good for your spine. At least this chair at least tries to remedy that, by offering proper support for proper sitting positions.

It looks like a nice chair, but at this price it has *fierce* competition with used chairs. Like I said, you can get an Embody for less and it will kill this chair.

It's actually not leather or faux-leather, but a mix of organic and non-organic materials, which were chosen specifically for thermal comfort. So, essentially, it stays cooler in the summer and isn't a breathtakingly cold to sit on in winter, compared to leather!

The material is also highly durable and easy to clean. Cloth can get dirty more easily, and also absorbs sweat, oil, food etc.

There are actually quite a few differences compared to the GX1. I've stated some below, if you're interested!

vs. the chairs you mentioned
  • No headrest
  • No independent seat base and backrest adjustment
  • Minimal contouring (return) of the backrest at the upper back to support a truly upright and forward leaning posture (the GX1 returns back to support the upper spine)
  • No negative tilt of the base and backrest to support a truly upright and forward leaning posture.
  • Minimal lateral lower back support for enhanced comfort
  • No adjustable lumbar support
  • No angle or forward / back adjustment of arm rests which can result in an inability to position the chair close enough to the desk.
  • Gas stem adjust to 52cm, which is too low for most users and seated workstations (GX1 adjust to 59cm)

The headrest for the HSF also has no return to support the back of the head i.e. it only has a curvature to support the back of the neck. Furthermore, the headrest supports the upper back which should actually be the role of the backrest.

Thanks!

We can't speak for the chairs you've used at work, but a true ergonomic solution, like the GX1, has numerous advantages over the racing seat style, which is a poor choice for gaming in general. Ergonomic chairs reduce discomfort, reduce risk of musculoskeletal disorders and over a period of time offer far greater value and overall user satisfaction.

The GX1 is hand-built in the UK with European components and has true ergonomic credentials. It was been designed from the bottom up for gamers, while many of the racing seats are based on same/similar platforms from the Far East, so it’s like comparing apples and oranges.

You may find these racing seats to be comfortable and that's fine, it's individual preference, but what we're trying to get across is that the majority are not ergonomic, and more style over substance.

We're looking to address this issue by providing a truly ergonomic chair that is designed specifically for gaming (rather than racing).

To be honest, quite appreciate direct response from a manufacturer rep here.

Personaly your price tag is too high for me. I stretched my limit on spending £600 on a noble chair which I am very satisfied with. I don't think I could comment on the Edge GX1 without having sit in one myself. Looks promising, but I do wonder if you are maybe asking a little too much.

Given what you are putting into it, even if its justifiable, a price tag such as this puts it out of reach of most in an instance.

Yep no chair is worth that money. I honestly wouldn't spend over $200 for a chair.

This is sorta how I feel. It genuinely looks like a fantastic product and with the right product placement etc. It may even start a new trend in the gaming chair sector as more people are educated about true ergonomics Vs racing seats. Buuut it is just so out of most people's price range even for a premium product. Unfortunately chairs is one of those areas where I think many don't understand true cost and cheap out. I wish you guys all the best though and if I come into some decent money I would definitely get one

Racing style chairs are the worst. Racing seats only make sense in a racing car and that's due to the position of the driver sitting in it. You don't game the same way that you sit while you're driving a car. Racing style chairs selling point has always been aesthetics.

Aye, that's why I've never owned one.
