CaseLabs is "closing permanently" - blames tariffs

So I would guess they were buying their alu from overseas then.

The increase in prices due to tariffs would be driving up the price of domestic aluminium due to demand outstripping supply. I doubt CaseLabs was a big enough purchaser to negotiate better prices or even a continued supply from their supplier.

Surprised they lasted this long how can they compete with cases being made in China by people who work 6 days a week 18 hours a day for £300 a month. I doubt anyone in California would want to be a slave like that.

The "Get in get out" get rich crew have knobbed countries so badly. The problem when you close all of your factories and rely on China is that one day they know where to kick you, and prices rise. And because you've been greedy and closed all of your factories you find yourself screwed.

China may work for peanuts now but once we are at their mercy you can expect prices to rise like crazy.

Hi

This is so sad for me. A great company with outstanding products and people is closings shop. I feel so grateful to them for the awesome Nova X2 case I own. Their great and fast responses during my initial order were fabulous. I am really sad as I was hoping to rebuild my main rig later this year or at holiday bonus time. I guess I will never get the SMA8 now. I also wish I had picked up my case and seen the factory. It's only a 100 or so miles from my home.

The USA government sucks and I am truly ashamed.

There is something fishy about the statement. A single large account default, and 80% increase due to tariffs. That number sounds like they wanted to up prices to cover the tariff increase and the default debt in their current pricing structure in one single increase.

Who are their biggest resellers? If they are defaulting, then someone else might be going under soon also.

Nothing to do with the government. If they were a bigger company they could have stayed in business. They never made much profit anyway. There business model was a niche market in a niche market. It's not that great of a model honestly. It was bound to happen.

If you are ashamed of our government because one tiny business closed you must not have a good back bone. Over 70% of all businesses in the US close within 3 years. It's called capitalism. There's no reason to be ashamed.

Sounds like BS to me too. Hard to believe tariffs would nearly double their cost margins. A company that goes tits up because of tariffs, especially almost overnight can't be that solid of a company to begin with.

Exactly. Probably just using it as an excuse to hid the fact they really do not sell all that much.

Yeah could well be true that. Companies need a bread and butter product, and many boutique companies fall by the way side once the rich have owned one.

They needed a cheap product (maybe made in China to get the price down). Thing is, once some one buys a case like this it's not like they are going to say "Hey I think I will buy another" 12 months down the line. It's kind of a case for life really.

It's probably just an excuse due to the fact they really didn't do much business at all outside of the incredibly small niche market they were in.

When something goes wrong blame the government, It's not the fact they made cases that cost $1000, It's not the fact that they take months to fulfil an order, It's all the governments fault.

Nothing to do with government, Their business model is bad and if a business model is bad it fails.

Would be interesting to know which major customer of theirs defaulted on their account, it seems that was also a major factor for them shutting down..

Just a heads up then. If anyone already has one and wants or needs one of the expansion parts, get it now while you can. Or else you will be buying a Thermaltake or a 1000D sooner or later.
